Anthony Joseph "Butch" Cipriani, Jr. 69, of Wellsburg, WV died unexpectedly on Friday, April 15, 2016 at home. He was born April 23, 1946, in Wheeling, WV, to the late Anthony J. Cipriani, Sr. and Rose (Cipoletti) Cipriani. He is survived by his loving and devoted wife of 45 years, Angela (Pizatella) Cipriani, and sons, Anthony Jay Cipriani (Theresa) of Los Angeles, CA, and Michael Cipriani of Wellsburg; four grandchildren, Thomas, Katie, Noah and Luca; five siblings, George (Annette) Cipriani of South Charleston, WV; Susan (Les) Grimm of Holly Springs, NC; MaryEllen (Chris) Paull of Wellsburg WV, Bill (Cathy) Cipriani of Wellsburg, and Chris (Cindy) Cipriani of Wheeling; and many nieces and nephews. Butch graduated from Wellsburg High School in 1964 and West Virginia University in 1969, with a degree in education. He taught at St. John School in Wellsburg, Brooke High School. and West Virginia University. Butch also served on the Wellsburg City Council. In 1973 he became a realtor with R.S. Pizatella & Associates in Fairmont. Relatively early in his career he was elected president of the West Virginia Board of Realtors and was selected as West Virginia Realtor of the Year. In 1981 he relocated his primary real estate practice to Wellsburg, which he continued up to the time of his passing. Butch was also a graduate of the Realtors Institute in Charlottesville, Virginia. Butch was a current director of the Municipal Mutual Insurance Company of West Virginia. He was a former member of the City of Wellsburg Planning Commission and an active member of the Wellsburg Lions Club for 33 years. He also served as a member of the Brooke County Veterans Memorial Park Foundation and many other community and civic organizations. A man of deep faith, Butch was an active member of St. John the Evangelist Roman Catholic Church. In addition to his commitment to his profession, the community and his family, Butch will be remembered as a passionate fan of WVU football games, where he hosted dozens of Blue Lot tailgate parties. Butch was a caring, generous man. He served God , family and friends faithfully with a loving heart and a profound kindness toward his fellow man. Butch had a deep pride in his hometown of Wellsburg which was reflected by his service to the community and its people. Friends will be received Monday, April 18th from 6-8 p.m. and Tuesday, April 19th from 2-4 p.m. and 6-8 p.m., at Mullenbach Funeral Home 669 Main St. Follansbee, WV. Mass of Christian burial will be celebrated on Wednesday, April 20th at 11:00 a.m. at St. John Church in Wellsburg, WV with the Rev. Msgr. Kevin Quirk as celebrant. Interment will follow at Franklin Cemetery in Wellsburg, WV. In lieu of flowers, donations may be made in Butch's memory to St. John the Evangelist Church, 1300 Charles Street, Wellsburg, WV, 26070, or to the donor's charity of choice.
