Mildred Maloney Obituary

Mildred “Milly” Helen Maloney was born on October 22, 1928, in Estherville, Iowa, to Howard and Maude (Miller) Hatland. She attended and graduated from Estherville High School. Milly passed away on December 12, 2018 at the Good Samaritan Home in Estherville, at the age of 90 years.

On August 8, 1949, she was united in marriage to Michael Maloney at St. Patrick’s Catholic Church in Estherville. The couple continued to make their home in Estherville. Milly worked for Dr. Morton as a nurse’s aide in the early years of their marriage and she was very proud to work as an aide at Good Samaritan Home in the early 1970’s. She was later a study hall monitor and detention lady at the middle school, much to the dismay of her three boys. Her true passion was being a wonderful wife to Mike and wonderful mom to their children.

Milly was an active member of St. Patrick’s Catholic Church. She enjoyed sewing, gardening, and reading. Milly loved all sports, especially the Chicago Cubs. Milly was hugely proud of her children and grandchildren, as was evidenced in her enjoyment of following their many school and sporting events. Being with family at Mitchell Lake were always some of her favorite times. Milly felt blessed that she and Mike were able to raise their children and grandchildren in such a loving environment with neighbors that were like family for the past 62 years.

Milly is survived by her husband of 69 years, Mike; their children Mary Ueland (Bob) of Richfield, Minnesota, Hallie Maloney of Algona, Becki Hall (Pat) of Estherville, Karen Lambert (Steve) of Algona, Pat Maloney (Cindy) of Omaha, Nebraska, John Maloney (Carol) of Tarpley, Texas, and Dick Maloney (Jill Radman) of Fifty Lakes, Minnesota. She is also survived by 24 grandchildren: Michael Guge (Monica), Chad Guge (Kari), Angie Lachney (Russ), Carly Pollack (Fred), Anna Beisch (Dave), Chrisanne Cobanoglu (Orhan), Amy Young (Mike), Abby Ziegler (Randy), Kelsey Maloney (Phil), Amanda Rottman (Caleb), Katie Krahulec (Mike), Kyle Maloney, Lee Brashear (Elizabeth), Jake Johansen (Jess), Chad Lambert, Alex Simpson, Amber Johnson (Eric), Molly Bjustrom (Corey), Kristina Maloney, Ashley Veurink (Isaac), Tanner Maloney, and Braeden Maloney; and 15 great-grandchildren: Ethan (Jillian), Caroline, Milly, Bazzell, Izzy, Ava, Jasmine, Evan, Zach, Mada, Sophia, Lilly, Jazzy, Ayla, and Lochlan. She is also survived by her sister, Linda Hatland (Eve), her sister-in-law, Virginia Dokter, her cousin, Dorothy Thompson, and her dear friend, Mable Boe.

Milly is preceded in death by her twin sons, David and Dennis; her parents, Maude and Howard; her brother, Reverand Kenneth Hatland; her grandson, Adam Sundall, and her granddaughter, Allison Maloney.
