Jose Eliseo Rodriguez Ojeda Obituary

Jose Eliseo Rodriguez Ojeda, known affectionately as "Pepito," passed away on March 20, 2025, in Shrewsbury Township, New Jersey, at the age of 88. Born on August 26, 1936, in Cuenca, Ecuador, Pepito lived a life marked by selflessness, humility, and a radiant spirit that made him the life of every gathering.

Pepito served in the Ecuadorian Army, demonstrating a commitment to his country. For many years, he volunteered as a member of the transportation department union executive committee. Later for over a decade, he worked closely with his brother Alfonso, further solidifying his dedication to both family and community.

A man of strong faith, Pepito was devoted to his spiritual life until his last breath. His hobbies included traveling, playing the guitar, watching soccer games, boxing fights and reading avidly. He had a particular fondness for seafood, especially crabs, and enjoyed comedy shows, with Mr. Bean being his favorite. Notably, on June 22, 1962, he won first place in a motorcycle race organized by the Italian Garibaldi Society.

Pepito is survived by his lifelong partner, Nelly Saltos, and his daughters, Patricia Rodríguez-Herrera, Ana Dowland-Rodríguez, and R. Angelica Lisa-Rodríguez. He was a proud grandfather to Andrea Stephanie, Karen Nicole, and Alfredo Jose (Joselo), and a great-grandfather to Domenica Alejandra. His legacy extends to his siblings Alfonso, Rafael, German, Luis (Enrique), Walter, Claudio, Hernan (Patricio) Rodríguez, Ana Mora-Rodríguez, Fanny Rodriguez-Perez, Marina Rodríguez, Luz Rodriguez, and Elisabeth Rodríguez, as well as numerous nephews, nieces, cousins and friends both overseas and in the United States.

Pepito was preceded in death by his parents, Felicia Ojeda and Lizardo Rodríguez, and his brothers Carlos Eduardo, Oswaldo Alvino, Luis Oswaldo, and Mario Alejandro.

Visitation for Pepito will be held at The Damiano Funeral Home, 191 Franklin Avenue in Long Branch, on Tuesday,  April 1, from 2 PM until the time of service at 3:45 PM.

In lieu of flowers, contributions in memory of Pepito may be made to the National Council on Aging (NCOA), AARP Foundation, or St. Jude Children's Research Hospital. These organizations reflect his enduring commitment to community support and the well-being of others.
