Jackie D. Johns, age 74, of Carrier Mills, IL and former longtime resident of Ozark, IL, passed away peacefully at 9:30 a.m. on Wednesday, March 26, 2025 with his family by his side in his home.

He had been living in Carrier Mills since July of 2024 because his home in Ozark had been destroyed by fire and his new home was currently being built. He was born on January 12, 1951, in St. Louis, MO the son of Doris Edward and Ava Louise (Woods) Johns.

Jackie attended school in Dupo, IL and was a graduate of Dupo High School Class of 1969.

He was first united in marriage to Joyce Nicholes and this union was blessed with 2 children: Jamie and Jerry Johns. He later was united in marriage to Tracey Ann Combs on January 4, 2018, in Vienna, IL and together they have shared over 7 years of marriage.

His working career had been with Thomason Express Trucking Company of Marion, IL as an over the road driver for many years until his health forced him to retire.

He was a member of New Vision Church of Ozark, IL and also a member of the National Rifle Association.

In his spare time, he was an avid hunter and fisherman. He enjoyed all types of hunting including fox, squirrel, coon, deer, waterfowl and had travel out west elk hunting. He also enjoyed fishing especially for bass and crappie.

He also was known for his willingness to help anyone who had a need.

He is survived by his wife, Tracey A. Steinmetz of Carrier Mills, IL; two sons, Jamie Johns and wife, Melissa of Carmi, IL and Jerry Johns and wife, Autumn of Evansville, IN; four grandchildren, Cody, Gracie, Elijah and Zayden Johns, other extended family and many friends.

He was preceded in death by his parents; sister, Robin Susie Strayhand and brother, Donny Johns.

Arrangements have been entrusted to Wilson-McReynolds Funeral Home, 900 North Court Street, Marion, IL.

In accordance with Jackie’s wishes there will not be any service accorded at this time.
