Oliver Clinton Hageman Obituary

Oliver C. Hageman, 74, of Lamar, South Carolina, passed away on March 26, 2025, at McLeod Regional Medical Center in Florence.

Born on May 5, 1950, in Rock Hill, SC, Oliver spent most of his life in Cheraw, SC, before settling in Lamar in his later years.

Oliver was a lifelong musician and an accomplished guitar, piano, and keyboard player. He played in multiple bands over the years, sharing his talent with countless audiences and fellow musicians. Music wasn’t just a hobby—it was part of his spirit. His love for sound and language extended far beyond instruments—he found inspiration in the fiery guitar work of Johnny Winter, the brilliance of Beethoven, and the haunting lyricism of writers like Emily Dickinson, Oscar Wilde, and Edgar Allan Poe.

Known for his remarkable intelligence, quick wit, and insatiable curiosity, Oliver was a lifelong learner who continued taking online classes until he suffered a stroke. He was a deep thinker whose humor was sharp and whose stories were unforgettable. Whether through conversation, music, or the written word, Oliver engaged with the world in a way that left a lasting impression.

He is survived by his beloved and devoted wife, Beverly Hageman; his children, Jessica (Walt) Sagun of Myrtle Beach, SC, Meredith Posey of Ruby, SC, and Clay Hageman of Geneva, NY; and his stepchildren, Janet Stewart, Anna Anderson, and Austin Dickson. He is also survived by his brother, Charlie Hageman of Cheraw, SC, and his siblings: Timothy Hutto (Martha) of Nashville, Arkansas; Patricia “Cia” Hutto of Sunriver, Oregon; Melissa Whiteside (Michael) of Durham, North Carolina and Donald Worth, Jr. (Sharon) of Rock Hill, SC. Oliver leaves behind many extended family members and dear friends who will carry his memory with love.

He was preceded in death by his parents, W.C. and Suzy Hageman, and his birth mother, Betty Roberts Worth.

A celebration of Oliver’s life will be held on Monday, March 31, 2025, @ 2pm at Belk Funeral Home in Lamar, South Carolina.
