George L. Dye Obituary

George Dye affectionately known as “Georgie Porgie” by family members and friends was born in Lincolnton, Georgia on July 26, 1946. He was the son of Ernest and Bertha Dye.


George relocated to Lexington, North Carolina in the early 1950’s where he attended Dubar High School. He later studied at North Carolina Livingtone College where he excelled on the football team. George also attended Business School, graduating with honors.


He was the first African American manager at Good Year in Paterson, NJ, and was also employed at Bradley’s for many years.


George loved sports, especially the Jets, he was their biggest fan! He was also very good with his hands and loved to fix things. He loved to dance and sing and spend time with his family and friends.


He married Helen Marie Holmes Dye and to this union two daughters were born; Angela Mounique Dye, and Marlena Yvette Dye. He had a special devoted friend Rosie who preceded him in death and admired her daughter Kelly and her children as his own.


On Thursday March 20, 2025, George departed this life at Daughters of Miriam in Clifton, NJ.


He was preceded in death by his siblings; Ana Ruth, Rose, Priscilla, Gwendolyn, James, Charles, Cleveland, FH (Buddy), Willie (Bo), Ernest, and Ford.


George leaves precious memories to his brother; Wayne Dye, devoted niece and nephew Sharon Dye and Alonzo Booker, grandchildren; Shaneice, Brian, Damir, Shamir, Jahmir, and D'Ajah, 3 great grandchildren; Cairo, Teo, and Seirea, his best friend; Scott Perkins, and a host of nieces, nephews, other relatives, and friends.
