Fred Mack Erskines was born on January 23, 1962, in Richmond, Virginia, to the late James and Amy Erskines of New Kent County, Virginia.
He attended New Kent High School. In his youth, he was baptized and joined Angel View Baptist Church, New Kent County, Virginia.
He was employed by J. C. Pallet Company Inc., Barhamsville, Virginia, as a Plant Manager for nearly forty years. He was a very loyal and dedicated employee of the company.
On May 7, 1988, he married the love of his life, Rolisa Shackleford. This union was blessed with one child, Latasha Shackleford. They enjoyed thirty-seven years of marital bliss until his passing.
Fred was a loving and devoted husband, father, brother, uncle, and friend to many people. His contribution to his family and friends will forever be remembered. All you had to do was ask and Fred would do whatever you asked of him! He always had a smile on his face and was eager to make you laugh. His memories will linger on in the hearts of everyone who knew him. We will miss him as much as we loved him.
Fred was a devoted Philadelphia Eagles fan. He had a deep passion for cars, appreciating both their craftsmanship and performance. He was known for his sharp sense of style and always took pride in looking his best. Fred enjoyed cooking on the grill for his family and friends. He was known as the “Grill Master,” as well as being the “Life of the Party.” His vibrant personality, love for life, and unwavering enthusiasm for the things he cherished will be deeply missed by all who knew him.
He was preceded in death by his parents, James & Amy Erskines; sister, Juanita Erskine; brother, Jimmy L. Erskines; brothers-in-law, Bryant “Levi” Jackson Sr. and Cornell Adams; two nephews, Jimmy Erskines Jr. and Anthony “Pepper” Erskine; and his in-laws, Len and Annie Shackleford.
Fred leaves to cherish precious memories with his wife, Rolisa Shackleford; children, Latasha Shackleford, Shadonna Crewe (James), Ladonna Barnes, and Sierra Barnes; grandson, Kyden Bradby; goddaughter, Tamecia Tyler; sisters, Dottie Jackson, Sharon Erskines-Adams, and Prophetess Mary McNeil (Leonard); brothers, Robert Erskines (Rosina) and Richard Erskines; loving in-laws, Bobby Shackleford (Nancy), Barbara Adkins (Russell), Rebecca Jones, Linda Shackleford (Chris Johnson), Charlotte Shackleford, Carolyn Manning, and Patrice Boyd; special aunt, Lenora Jones; and a host of nieces, nephews, cousins, and close friends.
A funeral service to celebrate Fred's life will be held at 11:00 a.m. Saturday, March 29, 2025, at Bethel Restoration Center. Interment to follow in Williamsburg Memorial Park. Mr. Erskines may be viewed on Saturday beginning at 10:00 a.m. in the church.
