Patricia Ellen Jordan, 72, of Niantic, CT, passed away on March 25, 2025, at Yale New Haven Hospital in New Haven, CT.
Born on June 14, 1952, in Derby, CT, Patricia was the daughter of the late Leroy and Kathryn (Hill) Jordan.
Patricia, most often known as Aunt Pat or Miss Jordan, was a proud and dedicated educator. She earned a Bachelor of Science from the University of Connecticut School of Business, a second Bachelor of Science in Education from the University of Connecticut, and a Master’s in Special Education from Southern Connecticut State University. She spent 40 years teaching math, beginning briefly at Clark Lane Middle School prior to spending the majority of her career at Waterford High School. After her retirement from Waterford Public Schools, Patricia continued to teach math at St. Bernard’s High School. Miss Jordan left an indelible mark on thousands of students.
Patricia was deeply involved in the Connecticut Education Association (CEA) and the National Education Association (NEA), serving in numerous leadership roles. She was instrumental in the creation of the Connecticut Education Foundation, a nonprofit established in 1991 to support teachers and students facing extraordinary personal hardships, as well as those pursuing careers in education. In 2004, she received the CEA Excellence in Education Advocacy Award for her dedication to the teaching profession. Her passion for education and her love for her students will be remembered by all who were fortunate enough to learn from her.
Patricia’s family and friends will remember her for her vibrant and colorful personality. In keeping with her wishes, those attending her funeral are encouraged to wear something red or pink to honor her memory. She is survived by her sister, Kathleen Grayeck (Thomas); two nieces, Katherine O’Briant (Francis) and Mary Telford (John), and great nieces and nephews, Francis Jr., Danielle, Jordan and Matthew.
A visitation will be held on Tuesday, April 1st, from 5:00 to 7:00 pm at the Thomas L. Neilan & Sons Funeral Home, 48 Grand Street, Niantic. A Mass of Christian Burial will be celebrated on Wednesday, April 2nd, at 10:00 am at St. Agnes Church, Haigh Avenue, Niantic. Interment will follow in St. Mary Cemetery, Jefferson Avenue, New London, CT.
