Bernadette (Barnhart) Olander, of Jamestown, passed away Thursday March 20, 2025, in her home.
She was born February 2, 1943, in Salamanca, NY, the daughter of the late Mary (Freeman) Simons and stepfather Frederick A Simons.
Bern was a 1960 graduate of Salamanca high school.
Bern leaves behind her husband Donald G. Olander, whom she was married to for over 60 years. Don and Bern started dating in high school and married on June 24th, 1964, in Little Valley NY. Their lives took them to Florida for a period of years and then returned to Western NY where they owned and operated Monarch Plastics in Frewsburg for many years. Bern dedicated much of her life to taking care of her son Troy with his health issues.
Survived by her sister Mary (Samuel) Papa, and brother-in-law Carl Olander; nephews: Mike Papa, Mark Papa, Tim Papa, John Smith, Kris Barnhart and nieces Kelly Frank, Amy Smith, Jodene Seiberg, Judith Baldwin, Merilyn Sverson and Penny Walker, as well as many great nieces and nephews. Also survived by lifelong friends Margie and Jack Walsh and Bob and Brenda Richardson and families.
Besides her parents she was preceded in death by son Troy Olander who passed away September 23, 2023; her sisters Sharron Smith, Joyce Wicks and brothers Robert Barnhart and Jack Simons; sister in laws: Margie Olander and Maryanne Olander; Niece Sheila Guadagna, nephew Jack Wicks and great nephew Zachary Frank

Burial will be in Lakeview cemetery.
