Marlene Isherwood

EAST POULTNEY-Marlene A. Isherwood, age 76, of Poultney, completed the final stage of life on Thursday March 20, 2025, at the Rutland Regional Medical Center with family by her side. While Marlene was accepting of her health and life status, those of us left behind were not quite as well prepared.

She was born on February 5, 1949, in Cortland NY, the daughter of Stanley A. and Bernice (White) Hobart and spent her early life being raised on the family farm on “the Hill” in the McGraw portion of Cortlandville. Marlene attended school within the McGraw CSD and throughout her early life was raised in the American Baptist faith in the McGrawville Baptist Church.

In early adulthood Marlene was committed to becoming a teacher and attended Keuka College (1971), and later she would receive a master degree from SUNY Albany. She taught English in several NYS schools, but the majority of her career was at Whitehall High School. Her 27 years at Whitehall were meaningful and lead to many years of happy associations with students in retirement, Some will always be family.

It was at Whitehall High where she would meet her husband Bob. Marlene and Bob married on August 14, 1982. In 1983, Ryan was born. As a family they would first live in N. Granville and when Ryan was entering 2nd grade they moved to Poultney. Over the years in Poultney Marlene held membership in the United Baptist Church of Poultney, the Poultney Woman’s Club, and was a past Director in the Shakespeare on Main Street theater group.

Survivors include her husband of Poultney, and her son Ryan (Candace Twigg) of Maryland.

There are no services. Cremation provided by the Durfee Funeral Home.
