Phyllis Ann Moore was born in Muskegon, Michigan, on April 25, 1958. She was the daughter of the late Willie and Katie Moore (Dawson) Burt. Phyllis was raised and educated in Muskegon Heights, Michigan, where she attended school and ultimately earned her diploma from Muskegon Heights High School. Phyllis was an active member of the majorette dance team and was involved in various other sports and activities.
Phyllis was active as a Queen Esther Baptist Church member as a youth. She attended Bible classes and, early on, found Jesus, who has always been a significant influence in her life. Phyllis was employed in local factories until her relocation to Flint, Michigan. After moving, she pursued her Certified Nursing Aide Credentials. Phyllis worked in various residential care facilities for the elderly, including Brookhaven Medical Care Facility, where she later retired.
After retirement, Phyllis became interested in real estate investing and managed several properties. She often volunteered for certain initiatives, such as the Hurricane Katrina relief effort through the FEMA program, to help those needing recovery. She stated that it was one of the highlights of her life and career.
She enjoyed spending time with family and friends and deeply connected with all her grandchildren, including the foster grandchildren. She volunteered her time through the Senior Grandparent Program and participated as a Brownie Troop Leader when her daughter was in elementary school. She was a public servant, a helper to those in need, and willing to sacrifice her time, energy, & effort to help others. Phyllis loved shopping & traveling. She was indeed a pillar in her community, a Queen whose style, strength, and grace were unmatched. If you knew her, you loved her and enjoyed every second of her presence. If you didn’t know her, you heard about her and admired her from afar. She will leave a legacy in her community that will be felt for a lifetime.
She is survived by her three children, Catanya Moore of Locustgrove, GA, Kenta Moore of Muskegon, MI, and Catina Moore of Jonesboro, GA, whom she shared with the late Kenneth Williams, also known as Manchie. Her grandchildren Darese Sanders Jr., Cadidjah Sanders, Solomon Sanders, Kamani Moore, Abrielle Beasley, Jakata Payne Jr., and Te’Onna Moore. A great-granddaughter, Promise Sanders. She also has a host of nieces, nephews, family, and friends.
