Robert B. Wray Obituary

WRAY, Robert B. 10/6/1922 – 1/4/2019 Age 96 years of Omaha Robert B. (Bob) Wray – of Omaha, Nebraska – peacefully passed away Friday, January 4, 2019 with his loving wife and family present at his home in Bennington, Nebraska. This middle son of Eugene H. and Emily Marquerite (Marge) Hookstra Wray was born in Seward, Nebraska. As a youngster, he enjoyed hunting and fishing. Bob later graduated from Algona High School and attended the University of Nebraska at Omaha. He served in the Army from 1943-1946 during World War II, concluding in an honorable discharge. Bob met Delores (Dee) Gross in August of 1947 at an American Legion dance in Omaha, Nebraska. The two of them married five years later in May 1952 in a small house ceremony. From this union were born daughter Nancy Dee and son Steven Robert. As a young father, Bob received many trophies from playing singles, doubles, and mixed doubles in tennis. He was also great at ping pong! He was very outgoing and had many long-time friends. Bob could tell you every bank clerk’s, cashier’s, and waitress’ names. Bob took his family on vacations to the beautiful mountains of Denver as well as on visits with friends in both Nevada and Oklahoma. He taught his children the values of acceptance, trust, fairness, honesty, politeness, and integrity. The magic and essential words to him were “please” and “thank you”. Bob worked as a real estate agent, broker, and assessor. He loved going on trips with Dee to Las Vegas, Nevada to “win big”! Bob even took his mother, Marge, with them once or twice. Slots was his favorite game, and he loved the reasonably-priced meals. After many years at their home on Newport Avenue in Omaha, Bob and Dee finally decided to retire in Camdenton, Missouri – the Ozarks – where they made many friends for seventeen years! Their children and grandchildren were able to enjoy various visits with them there, while swimming and boating in the nearby lake. Bob and Dee moved back to Omaha to live with son Steve and daughter-in-law Rose – where they had wonderful times. He endeared himself to many extended family members and friends, so will be greatly missed by each and all of us! Robert is survived by his Wife of 66 years, Delores Wray; Daughter Nancy D. Krahn; Son Steven Wray & wife Rose; brother Fred A. Wray; many other relatives and friends.
