Richard J. MacLean
Glace Bay
Richard Joseph MacLean of Sydney, age 64, passed away peacefully on March 20, 2025, at Cape Breton Regional Hospital.
Richard grew up on Mira Road and attended Riverview High School. Following a traumatic brain injury, he spent much of his life in assisted living, residing at Terrace Manor, Glace Bay, for the past five years. His family extends special thanks to Blanche MacAulay and the dedicated staff of the manor for their care and support.
Richard had a deep and abiding faith, which guided his life. He cherished his holy medals and found great comfort in them. He also had a special love for animals, especially Starfire, the horse he once rode. Richard was a kind and easygoing soul, deeply loved by his family.
He shared a particularly close bond with his brother, John, who spoke with him daily and visited him several times a week for 40 years. Richard found joy in music, especially the songs of Elvis Presley, with Amazing Grace and How Great Thou Art among his favorites. He also enjoyed time with friends at Cairdeil Place in Sydney.
Richard is survived by his brothers, John and Jim; his sisters, Theresa, Karen, and Leisa; and many beloved nieces and nephews. He was predeceased by his parents, Shirley and Michael MacLean, and his brother, Michael.
A Celebration of Life in Richard’s honor will be April 11, 2025, at 1:00 PM at Resurrection Cemetery Chapel, Sydney Forks, 2643 Kings Road, Sydney Forks.
