David Saenz Salinas was called Home to be with the Lord on March 20, 2025, at the age of 84. He died very peacefully at the end of the day after celebrating his birthday with his family. He was born in Falfurrias, Texas on March 15, 1941.
He is joined now in heaven by his parents Flavio and Hortencia Salinas, his wife Elma Alaniz, and his brothers Alonzo and Gilbert Salinas.
David is survived by his two daughters Barbara Phelps- husband Bryan, Betty Escalante- husband Sonny, grandsons Nathan (Wanda) Moore and Hunter Escalante, granddaughters Natasha Schmidt-husband David, Emily Soliz- husband Carlos, great-grandson Abram Moore, and great-granddaughters Amilea Soliz and Ellarie Moore. He is also survived by his wife of 28 years, Eva Guzman, as well as his extended family, Luis A. Salazar, Marizela Garcia, Veronica Garcia- husband Adrian, and many grandchildren and great grandchildren, his sisters Ana Boatright-husband Rod, Olga Ross- late husband Leo, Janie Burgess- husband Richard, and many nephews and nieces.
David was a teacher at Gregory-Portland High School from 1969 and retired after 33 years. He received his education at Roy Miller High School in 1959, Del Mar College in 1961, University of Corpus Christi in 1963, and Stephen F. Austin State University in 1970, earning a master’s degree in Spanish.
David lived in San Antonio for 28 years. He loved to travel and enjoyed several trips to Italy, Spain, Ireland, Israel, and many states in the United States. He was always fascinated with history and loved taking photos. He enjoyed working part time at Colonial Funeral Home for many years, was devoted to St. John Neumann Catholic Church and was also devoted to Our Lady of Schoenstatt.
A public visitation will be held from 5:00 p.m. -9:00 p.m. on Thursday, March 27, 2025, at Seaside Funeral Home Chapel, with the Holy Rosary to be recited at 7:00 p.m. that evening.
Visitation will resume at 9:00 a.m. at St. Thomas More Catholic Church with the Funeral Mass to be celebrated at 10:00 a.m. on Friday, March 28, 2025, with the Interment to follow at Seaside Memorial Park.
