Marshall Francis Miller Obituary

Mr. Marshall Francis Miller passed away on March 20, 2025 in Erie, PA at the age of 97. Marshall was born on May 7, 1927, in Dunkirk, New York to Lee Kenneth Miller and Elizabeth Catherine (Burlett) Miller. He grew up alongside his siblings, including (infant brother) Kenneth Miller, Lee “Brother” Miller and sister Alice (Miller) Orton (Edward).

Marshall graduated from Harborcreek High School. At the age of 17, Marshall answered the call to serve his country by enlisting in the United States Navy during World War II. From May 16, 1945 to July 28, 1946 (honorably discharged), he was stationed in the Philippines, contributing to the war effort with dedication and bravery. His time in the Navy was a defining chapter in his life, instilling values of discipline and resilience that remained with him throughout the years.

Beyond his service, Marshall was an employee of Hammermill Paper Company and was presented with a “Service Award” for his faithful service from March 9, 1953 to March 9, 1973. Marshall continued working for Hammermill Paper Company until his retirement in 1989, giving 37 years to the company. Marshall had a deep love for gardening, tending to plants with care and patience. Fishing was another cherished hobby, offering him moments of peace and reflection by water.

Marshall was a parent to three sons, Kenneth, James, and William. He has several grandchildren, nieces and nephews. He also shared a special bond with his niece, Kira Newara, who was his special friend and caretaker in the last few years of his life. Marshall was predeceased by his parents, his infant brother Kenneth Miller, Lee “Brother” Miller, and his loving companion of 12 years, Mary E. Kohl. Marshall was a member of the Harborcreek Presbyterian Church and a lifelong fan/supporter of the University of Nebraska. Marshall’s long life was marked by service, dedication, and quiet joys found in nature and family. His memory will live on through those who knew him.

Private funeral arrangements have been entrusted to the William D. Elkin Funeral Home, 65 South Lake Street, North East. Private interment at the North East Cemetery. Please send condolences to elkinfh.com.
