Princeville – Marilyn G. Hoyt, 94, of Princeville, passed away at 3:18 a.m. on March 20, 2025, at her home. Marilyn was born in Bellingham, WA, on June 30, 1930, the daughter of Richard and Inez (Martin) Grigg. On August 2, 1952, she married Donald Hoyt in Bloomfield, NJ. He preceded her in death on April 7, 2021, in Tahlequah, OK.
Surviving are five children, Cheryl (Andrew) White of Cary, NC, Richard (Anne) Hoyt of Princeville, Paul (Debra) Hoyt of Hershey, PA, Norman (Alison) Hoyt of Rib Lake, WI, and George (Patricia) Hoyt of Greensboro, NC; 16 grandchildren; 19 great-grandchildren; and her brother-in-law, George H Hoyt, also of Princeville. She was preceded in death by her parents and husband.
Marilyn trusted Jesus as her Savior at a young age. At the age of 13 she committed her life to serving her Savior as a missionary - her heart’s desire was to give her whole life back to the One who had given His all for her.
After completing her master’s in education, she and Don went to Zimbabwe in 1960 with their mission, TEAM. For 16 years she served there as a teacher, editor, dorm-mom to 30+ missionary children, and most importantly as a loving wife to Don and loving mother of her 5 children. After leaving Zimbabwe in 1976, they served for 5 years at Northeastern Bible College in NJ where Lynn was dean of women and taught in their elementary education program. They then moved to Wheaton, IL, in 1981, living there for 17 years. While Don served in the mission headquarters, Lynn worked for a number of years as an editor and then salesperson with Scripture Press. She also kept the home fires burning, with their youngest, George, still at home, caring for her ageing father and welcoming into their home about 40 different borders over those years. One never knew who might be at their dinner table on any given night.
After Don’s retirement in 1998, they moved to Westboro, WI, where they served for 11 years as volunteers in the role of camp host and hostess at Camp Forest Springs. Lynn actively participated in other camp activities, and she especially loved working with the children. Again, their home was a revolving door for young people from the camp where Lynn always had something on the table or in the fridge for these hungry young people to consume, along with a word of encouragement or a prayer.
In 2009, Don and Lynn moved to Tahlequah, OK, where they were residents in the Go Ye Village retirement center. Wherever Don and Lynn lived they were always active members in their local church serving the Lord and the community faithfully in any way they could. While in Oklahoma, Lynn also proudly joined the local Daughters of the American Revolution community. She moved up to Princeville in 2022, to live with her son and daughter-in-law, Rich and Anne. Even here she eagerly joined Bethany Baptist Church in Edwards and kept as involved as her years and strength would allow her. Marilyn’s first love was Jesus, always, then Don, and her family followed by showing Jesus’ love to the multitude of people young and old whose paths she crossed throughout her earthly pilgrimage. She had the heart of a servant, was an encourager, a prayer warrior, loved to teach God’s Word, enjoyed making and mailing out cards for family and friends, was an avid reader and was always ready to tackle another crossword.
