James Walker Brown Jr. Obituary

PRESQUE ISLE

James Walker Brown Jr. died on March 20, 2025 after a long illness. His name held the weight of generations of Walkers back to the 1600s, but he was called by many variations. To his immediate family, he was Jimmy or, more importantly, Uncle Jimmy. To his friends and colleagues, he was Jim. To his daughters, he was just… Dad. The name James was a love pat from his wife. He is survived by his wife Sharon and two daughters, Hannah Brown and Allison Atkins and Allison’s husband Josh. He is also survived by his mother Ann Brown, his brother Kevin Brown and wife Joan and his brother from another mother, Gerry Scott and sister Judy Cyr and her husband David. He is survived by three nieces and a nephew as well as great nieces and nephews. He had many beloved friends who felt like family to him. He was predeceased by his father, James W. Brown Sr., a Lieutenant in the Maine State Police Troop F in Aroostook County.

Jim was a quiet, kind, unassuming man who walked softly on this earth. He attended the University of Maine in Orono and then graduated from the University of Maine in Presque Isle. He carved his own path of service throughout his career. He became an emergency medical technician and went on to manage the Aroostook County Emergency Medical Services. He taught classes, consulted with hospitals and ambulance services, and helped to create policies and standards to improve emergency care in the County. He became the Director of Economic and Community Development for Presque Isle, a city whose history he loved, and whose potential he envisioned. Jim loved to listen to the Moody Blues on the porch at camp, go in his truck on Sunday mornings for his paper and coffee, challenge his skills with crossword puzzles and Sudoku and play spirited rounds of cribbage with his daughters. He was the undisputed champion of trivia.

He was a long-time fan of Black Bear hockey and the Boston Red Sox, through thick and thin. He loved connecting with his family in Gardiner and reminiscing. Jim expressed his philosophy of life as “Go with the flow and enjoy it.” Though a quiet presence, he leaves a great void in the lives of those who loved him.

In honor of his wishes, there will be no funeral services, but those who wish to remember Jim may donate to St. Jude Children’s Research Hospital, his favorite charity, or a charity of your choice. Arrangements have been entrusted to Bowers Funeral Home and Cremation Service. Online condolences may be shared at www.bowersfuneral.com
