Maria Travis Obituary

Maria Travis, 84, of Delaware, Ohio passed away peacefully on Thursday, March 20, 2025, at the Arbors at Delaware.

Maria was born in Termini Imerese, Sicily on Saturday, October 12, 1940, to the late Antonino and Giuseppa Dinovo.

Maria immigrated from Sicily in 1956, at the young age of 16. She was an incredibly hard worker and managed to both learn English and earn enough money to buy herself a home in only 5 years.

In addition to being a hard worker, Maria was loyal and loving. Maria and her husband, William F. Travis, would buy Christmas gifts every year for children who were in need. In doing so, they would forgo gifts to each other.

Maria was proud of many things in her life, the thing she was most proud of, however, was her family. She would watch over any of her grandchildren when given the opportunity, and it was a joy. Maria was also very proud of her flower beds, which were adorned with beautiful roses. Maria loved her roses, and she put in the time and effort to maintain their beauty. Maria was also proud of her work ethic, which was the fuel behind so many of her achievements and joys in life.

Maria was also an amazing cook. She was a harsh critic of herself when cooking, always wanting to improve. Her husband William said that he has never had a single bad meal from Maria, regardless of her critiques. Signature dishes included spaghetti, lasagna, pot roast, chicken cutlets, and for Christmas every year she would make countless traditional Sicilian cookies known as Cucidatti. Maria was able to share her Sicilian heritage with so many people through her cooking.

In her spare time, Maria would often play cards at a card club she attended, Euchre being the most popular game that she played. She would tend to her roses, sometimes sit down and enjoy a good read, work on a puzzle, or her favorite, she would spend time with her grandchildren and great-grandchildren.

Maria was so many wonderful things; words like "brave", "funny", "passionate", and "strong-willed" only graze the surface of how great Maria truly was. Maria will be forever missed.

Maria Travis is survived by her children Anna (Casey Clark) Travis, Tim (Gillian) Travis, William Travis, Gerald (Sarah) Travis, and Sherri (James) Theado; 16 wonderful grandchildren; and many great-grandchildren.

In addition to her parents, Maria is preceded in death by her loving husband William F. Travis; daughter Cynthia Coons; and brothers Carlo Dinovo and Salvatore Dinovo.

A memorial visitation will take place from 4:30 pm - 6:30 pm on Friday, March 28, 2025, at Robinson Funeral Home.

Robinson Funeral Home is honored to help the Travis family in their time of need.
