"Babe" Obituary

With profound sadness, we share the passing of Maurice Allan Walker, lovingly known as “Babe,” who peacefully departed this life on March 20, 2025, at the age of 56. Born on September 6, 1968, in Wheeling, West Virginia, Babe was a beacon of love, laughter, and generosity to all who had the privilege of knowing him.

Babe took his final rest at Liza’s Place in Wheeling. Though his physical presence is no longer with us, his warmth, humor, and boundless kindness will forever echo in the hearts of those he touched.

A gifted chef, Babe didn’t just feed people, he nourished souls. He had a way of turning food into comfort and bringing people together with every dish he created. He had an extraordinary gift for making those around him feel cared for and celebrated. His jokes and laughter filled the kitchen as much as the aroma of his delicious meals, leaving behind memories as rich and warm as the meals he prepared.

Beyond his passion for cooking, Babe had a love for sports that ran deep. He was a fierce competitor on the dartboard, a proud member of the Omega Sliders team and the Burney Ones. Known for his strong left hook, he was as tough as he was spirited. A die-hard Miami Dolphins fan, Babe’s Sundays were sacred, filled with football, family, and his legendary Super Bowl boards, where he found joy in bringing loved ones together. In his younger years, he excelled in pole vaulting and track, and his love for the game never faded, whether it was on the field or cheering from the sidelines.

Babe’s love for his family was endless, and his children were his whole world. But his kindness didn’t stop at his own he had a heart big enough for everyone, always looking out for others, especially kids who needed a guiding hand. He was the kind of man who would give without hesitation, who would offer the shirt off his back without a second thought. Babe wasn’t just a good man, he was a protector, a provider, a rare soul selfless and full of love. His presence left a lasting impact and his generosity will be remembered forever. Babe’s generosity and love left a lasting mark on everyone lucky enough to know him.

Babe now joins his father, Arthur Lee Bell, in eternal rest. He leaves behind a legacy of love, survived by his devoted mother, Vivian Louise Walker; his cherished friend, Yolanda Nightengale; and his beloved children: Markisa Nightengale, Keasha Nightengale, Maurice “Buddy” Walker Jr., Tajah Walker, Maur’leon Walker, and Amauree Walker.

He is also deeply missed by his siblings: Myron “Boobie” Walker, Michelle “Sister” Walker, Monae Walker, Constina (Demetrius) Lathon, Lance Bell, Arthur Tyrone (Missy) Bell, Bridgett (Dan) Roman, Rodney (Evette) Bell, Arlett (Woody) Wright, and Shelton Lee. His love extended to his six treasured grandchildren—Zamari, Lia, Le’Veon, Malik, Malia, and Makayla—who were the light of his life, along with a host of nieces, nephews, cousins, and extended family who adored him.

Babe’s journey was blessed with the friendship of many, including Ronnie Green Sr., Boogie Johnson, Michael Lee, Keith Wesley, Bill Reed, Willie Moultan, Kevin Minnifield, Curt McGhee Jr., Jaloni Galloway, and his esteemed coworkers, Becky Rodocker and others who shared in his joy. A special place in his heart was always reserved for his dear cousin, Verna Mae, whose bond with him was unbreakable.

Family and friends will be received Saturday, April 5, 2025 from 11 am until time of service at 2 pm at First Christian Church, 1343 National Rd, Wheeling, WV 26003 with Bishop Agnew as Celebrant.
