Amelia Cuozzo Bottalico Obituary

Amelia Cuozzo Bottalico, 92, passed away peacefully on March 20, 2025, surrounded by her children and grandchildren. Born in Washington, DC on November 13, 1932, Amelia grew up in the Capital Hill area along with her parents, Theresa and Joseph, and her beloved sisters and brother—Mary, Tina, Josie, and Vince. Amelia was a 1950 graduate of McKinley High School and later held a position as an administrative assistant for the Atomic Energy Commission (which is currently the Department of Energy). It was in Washington that Amelia encountered the love of her life, Pat, with whom she shared an extraordinary 68-year journey, nurturing a beautiful family of four children: Terry, Steve, Lisa, and David. Although her most valued role was as devoted wife and homemaker for many years, she rejoined the workforce at the University of Maryland where she received the MD Governor’s Citation for serving the state for over 20 years.

Throughout her life, Amelia’s bond with her siblings was a constant source of joy. The four Cuozzo sisters, along with their brother, always lived close to each other, creating a lifetime of cherished memories for each of their families - preparing sumptuous meals, enjoying spirited vacations in Ocean City, and hosting holiday get-togethers that were extraordinary family reunions.

For decades, the home Amelia and Pat created together on Pony Trail Lane in Hyattsville was the central gathering place for family and friends that spanned several generations. In their home there was always room for everyone, where all life’s milestones were a reason to celebrate. Every holiday and special occasion became a celebration of life, complete with flowing wine, hearty pasta, and irresistible homemade pizza, where every visitor was embraced as family.

Amelia was blessed to have such a strong network of support during her health struggles. Her journey was less burdensome because of all her devoted grandchildren, nieces and nephews (great nieces and nephews), godsons, goddaughters, neighbors, extended family, and life-long friends (who she always considered part of her family). Her home caregivers, Elizabeth and Tina, always showed her patience and kindness; and the entire memory care staff at Arbor Terrace, Fulton, were compassionate, professional, and overwhelmingly supportive towards her. Amelia’s nephew Larry and his wife Lucy were especially caring, as if she was their own mother. Amelia constantly felt God’s tender care from these special angels that He sent, and through each of them she found peace.

Amelia’s legacy shines as a testament to a life well-lived—a life of faith, joyful gatherings and devotion to family that lights the way for future generations. Her memory inspires us to cherish every moment, to dance your troubles away, and to always welcome others with warmth and laughter.

Amelia is predeceased by her husband Pat and is survived by her children: Teresa B. Christie (the late Richard), Stephen A. Bottalico, Lisa B. Hicks (Earl), and David A. Bottalico; her grandchildren: David, Cara, Stephen, Martine (Cole), Eric, Michael, Jack, and Luke. She is also survived by many nieces and nephews. Relatives and friends may call at St. Mark the Evangelist Church, 7501 Adelphi Road, Hyattsville, MD, Monday, March 31, 2025, from 9:00 to 10:00 a.m.; where the Mass of Christian Burial will follow at 10:00 a.m. Entombment at Gate of Heaven Cemetery, 13801 Georgia Avenue, Silver Spring, MD.
