Carol Ann Smith (nee Matthews), Passed away at age 79 on Thursday, March 20, 2025. Beloved wife of 59 years to Joe Dean Smith; loving mother of Shantel (Christopher) Bitza and Matthew (Lisa Clavin) Smith; cherished grandmother of Phinn Holland Bitza, Hayden Bitza, Henry Clavin, Nathan Clavin, and Zachary Smith; dear sister-in-law of Bill (Sherald) Smith, Jeannie (the late Bruce) Phipps, and the late Charles (Joyce Survived) Smith and Kenneth Smith; dear aunt, cousin and friend.


Devoted wife, mother, and lifelong member of the Kirkwood Methodist Church, Carol touched many lives with her passion devoted to the children within the community.  Carol's roles at the church included Sunday School Teacher, Vacation Bible School and Children’s Day Out Director.  Dedicated to education, her career blossomed into working with special needs children and later courageously taught adults within the prison education system. In her leisure time, Carol loved nature, traveling, crafts and most of all spending time with her beloved family.


Visitation Thursday, March 27th from 4:00 pm-8:00 pm at Bopp Chapel, 10610 Manchester Rd., in Kirkwood. Funeral Service 11:00 am on Friday, March 28th  with visitation from 10:00 am -11:00 am at Kirkwood United Methodist Church, 201 W Adams Ave, Kirkwood, MO 63122. Interment Oak Hill Cemetery. In lieu of flowers please consider memorials to The National Multiple Sclerosis Society (Gateway Area Chapter).
