Ruth Marie Hurlburt, age 81, of Onalaska, Wisconsin passed away on Thursday, March 20, 2025.  She was born on October 24, 1943 in La Crosse, Wisconsin, to Robert and Tina (Babcock) Hass.  She graduated from the University of Wisconsin-La Crosse and spent her career teaching.  She taught music and English in Randall, Minnesota for 2 years, then moving back to the La Crosse area in 1967; She then spent the next 32 years as an eighth grade English teacher at the Onalaska School District.  She was joined in marriage to Wesley Hurlburt on August 12, 1967.

Ruth was a long-time member of Onalaska United Methodist Church and participated as a volunteer for church missions.  She was a member of the La Crosse area Retired Senior Volunteer Program (RSVP) and was active at the YMCA, especially enjoying playing cards.  Her free time was filled with activities at the church, including singing and playing bells, and also volunteering at Irving Pertsch Elementary School.

Ruth is survived by her husband, Wesley, daughter, Ann Marie Lahti of Kimberly, Wisconsin, grandson, Jari-Matti Lahti, in-laws Vicki Hurlburt and Douglas (Ellen) Hurlburt, both of Black River Falls, Wisconsin, numerous nieces and one nephew, and cousin Kurt (Janet) Hass of Franklin, Indiana.  She was preceded in death by her parents, numerous aunts, uncles, and cousins.

A Joy of life celebration of Ruth’s life will be held at the Onalaska United Methodist Church (212 4th Avenue North, Onalaska, Wisconsin) on Saturday, March 29, 2025 at 11:00 a.m. with a time for visitation beginning at 9:00 a.m.
