Obituary for Katherine Laura Stuckey

Katherine Laura Stuckey, born on January 9, 1938, in Ord, Nebraska, passed away peacefully on March 20, 2025, in Omaha, Nebraska. She was the cherished daughter of Lucinda and Clayton Gilroy.

Katherine was a graduate of Ord High School, where she accompanied musical groups on the piano, showcasing her prodigious talent. Her passion for music continued as she played the pipe organ in various churches for an astounding 45 years. She pursued higher education at Hastings College and later graduated from the University of Nebraska. During her time at the University of Nebraska, she served as President of her sorority. Gamma Phi Beta.

Katherine dedicated her life to education, teaching in Ralston and Lexington, Nebraska. She also served several terms on the Lexington School Board, demonstrating her commitment to community and education.

Kathy was a founding director of the Museum of Nebraska Fine Art and on the advisory board of the University of Nebraska College of Medicine.

On June 19, 1960, Katherine married Harold P. Stuckey, and together they raised four wonderful children: Michael, Robert, John, and Sarah. In 1995, Kathy and Harold retired and moved to Naples, Florida, where Katherine became an avid tennis and duplicate bridge player. She founded the Naples Yacht Club Duplicate Bridge Club, a testament to her leadership and love for the game.

Katherine is survived by her beloved husband, Harold; her sons, Mike (Susan), Rob (Kelly), and John (Kelley); and her daughter, Sarah. She leaves behind eight grandchildren: Harold John Stuckey (Elizabeth), Hannah McGowan (Russell), Lindsay Stuckey, Clayton Stuckey (Kelly), Mary Katherine Stuckey, Beau Stuckey, Leo Harr, and Sam Harr. She was also blessed with three great-grandchildren, Frances and Georgette McGowan and Michael Gilroy Stuckey. Additionally, she is survived by her brother Lyle Gilroy and her twin brother Keith Gilroy.

Katherine was a friend to all who knew her and filled her loved ones' hearts with joy. She now rests peacefully in the hands of our Lord. Her legacy of love, music, and service will forever be remembered by those who had the privilege of knowing her.


A memorial to the First Presbyterian Church of Naples Florida has been established.
