DURHAM: Philip B. Cates, Sr., 82, passed away on Thursday, March 20, 2025 at his home. He was born in Durham to the late Victor Thomas Cates, Sr. and Hazel Cates.
Mr. Cates was an environmental health specialist for the Durham County Health Department and retired after 35 years. In addition to a deep love for his family, he had a well-known passion for cars.
Mr. Cates is survived by his wife, Tami Cates; son, Philip Burrell Cates, Jr. (Laura); daughter, Ashley Marie Bunner (Chris); and grandchildren, Philip Burrell Cates, III and Molly Ann Cates.
A celebration of life will be held at 11:00am on Saturday, March 29th at Grey Stone Church. The family will receive friends following the service.
