Maxine Margaret (Hatke) New, 78, of Lafayette, passed away on Thursday, March 20, 2025 at Franciscan East Hospital. She was born on June 18, 1946 in Lafayette to the late William Anthony and Margaret Alice (Farrell) Hatke.

Maxine was a graduate of Lafayette Central Catholic High School. She was married to Terry New on September 3, 1966 at St. Lawrence Church, and he preceded her in death in 2010. Maxine spent her career raising her daughters. She was extremely family-oriented, and was more of a best friend to her children and grandchildren.

She was amazing gift-giver and a good friend to all that knew her, with a big compassionate heart. She was never afraid to speak her mind. She really enjoyed a good beer, sunbathing, riding her moped, laughing and joking, working in her yard, dancing, and any crazy antics. She was also a “head lamp enthusiast.”

Maxine is survived by her daughters, Diane “Charlie” Montgomery, Kimberly New, and Carrie “Bomber” New. She also leaves grandchildren and great grandchildren to cherish her memory.

In addition to her parents, Maxine was preceded in death by a sister and a grandson.
