Janet (Schnellbacher) Tate, 96, of Quincy, IL, passed away at 12:15 am Thursday, March 20, 2025, at Garden View Care Center in Chesterfield, MO.


Janet was born October 10, 1928, in Quincy, IL to John Daniel and Helen Caroline (Schaefer) Schnellbacher. She was married to Lewis E. Tate on November 29, 1947, at Salem Evangelical United Church of Christ in Quincy, IL. He preceded her in death on April 13, 1998.


Survivors include her two daughters, Donna Bower (Rev. David) of Ladoga, IN, and Diana Sprich (Frank) of St. Louis, MO; one son in-law, Gary Glasgow of Canton, MO; six grandchildren, Janna Holberton (Matt), Julie Stopp (Todd), Jonathan Bower, Joseph Bower (Lauren), Christa Johnson (Joseph), and Frank Sprich III; nine great-grandchildren; four great-great grandchildren; one sister in-law, Patricia Tate; and numerous nieces and nephews.


Janet was preceded in death by her husband; her parents; one daughter, Lois Glasgow; one grandson, Richard Tate Glasgow; four brothers; three sisters; and numerous nieces and nephews.


A graduate of Quincy High School, Janet's life was characterized by her unwavering commitment to her family. Her talents as a seamstress were evident in the beautiful clothes and curtains she crafted with care. Janet's love for old movies and musicals brought joy to her home, and she even had the delightful opportunity to meet Cliff Robertson, one of her favorite actors.


Janet's culinary skills were renowned among family and friends, who looked forward to her delicious pies and homemade angel foodcakes on their birthdays. Her green thumb flourished in her garden, where she grew an abundance of tomatoes, peppers, and rhubarb. Competitive and playful, she was a formidable opponent in card games, badminton, and ping pong, always ready for a friendly challenge.


Family trips to Disney World and picnics in local parks like Siloam Springs and South Park were among the many memorable experiences Janet organized, ensuring every detail was perfect for those she loved. Above all, Janet's unwavering commitment to her family remained the central focus of her life, a source of joy and pride that she treasured deeply. Her memory will be held in the hearts of those who knew her, a beacon of warmth and kindness that will never fade.


Friends and Family are invited to Janet's Life Celebration at a visitation that will be Wednesday, March 26, 2025, from 12:00 pm to 1:00 pm at O'Donnell-Cookson Life Celebration Home in Quincy, IL. A Funeral Ceremony will follow at 1:00 pm with Rev. David Bower officiating. Burial will follow at Greenmount Cemetery in Quincy, IL.
