Marjorie “Marge” was born to Wesley and Zelma (Lenz) Doughty on July 10, 1933, in Streator, IL. Her family later moved to a farm southeast of Jamesport. She married William “Bill” Schapaugh on June 15, 1952, in Jamesport. Together, they embarked on a remarkable journey in the seed trade business, raising their family and relocating to various parts of the country.
With each move, Marge’s adaptability and strong spirit allowed her to take on many roles, including assembling electronic components, serving as postmaster in Lytle, TX, and providing behind-the-scenes support for Bill’s work. Throughout their journey, as she and Bill raised two sons, Marge maintained an immaculate home, where everything was in its place—except, of course, in the boys’ rooms. Her talents were many and included cooking, sewing, knitting, crocheting, and gardening. Like her sisters, she shared her gift of music through singing and playing the piano.
Marge had a deep love for the outdoors and the quiet beauty of the countryside—she proudly considered herself a country girl. That connection to nature and rural life was reflected in everything she did.
She treasured family gatherings—especially planning the meals, always making sure there were plenty of side dishes, each one prepared with love and care. After moving back to the Jamesport/Trenton area in 1991, she and Bill poured their hearts into renewing the Schapaugh family farm. They planted trees, stocked the fishing pond, mowed pastures, repaired fences, and never stopped battling brush and weeds—working side by side with purpose and pride. Alongside their work on the farm, they embraced retirement by taking numerous motor coach trips and spending many winters in warmer areas.
She is survived by her sons Bill (Debra) of Manhattan, KS and Randy (Pat) of Battle Creek, MI; grandsons Daniel (Megan) Schapaugh and Adam (Jami) Schapaugh; step-grandson Dean Robert Rumsey; great-grandchildren Addison, Layne, and Finley Schapaugh; sister Marilyn Dunn, Kearney, MO; brother-in-law Jim Whorton, Trenton, MO; plus, several nieces and nephews.
Marge was preceded in death by her beloved husband, Bill; her parents Wesley and Zelma Doughty; parents-in-law Earl and Frances Schapaugh; brothers Eugene and Merle Doughty; sisters Elaine Anderson, Barbara Doughty, Rosie Ramian, Kathryn Rissler, and Beverly Whorton; brothers-in-law Bill Anderson, Chuck Hampton, Ray Dunn, Andy Ramian, and Dave Rissler; sisters-in-law Mary Doughty, Mildred Doughty, Anna Lee Hampton, Mary Louise Schapaugh; and great-grandson Oliver Schapaugh.
