E. Doreen MacDonald Obituary

MacDonald, E. Doreen (nee Crowe)

It is with profound sadness that we announce the passing of Elta Doreen MacDonald on March 20, 2025 at Hotel Dieu Shaver Rehabilitation Hospital in St. Catharines, Ontario in her 93rd year.

Doreen was predeceased by her beloved husband of 45 years, Bruce Barnum MacDonald, on July 10, 2000. Doreen is survived by her children Shannon Campbell (Dave Bawtinheimer), Pamela Young (Mark), Barton MacDonald (Denise) and Melanie MacDonald; her grandchildren Heather, Christopher and Alexander Campbell (Shannon), Robert, Teboho and Makhotso (Beth Grinde) Young (Pamela) and Gregory MacDonald-Langlois (Katie) (Melanie); great grandchildren Seth Campbell and Mackenzie Mitchell (Heather). Doreen will be greatly missed by her many cousins, friends and acquaintances.

Doreen was born December 21, 1931 in Detroit, Michigan. She was raised in Kirkland Lake, Ontario and graduated from Kirkland Lake Collegiate and Vocational Institute in 1950. She received a Certificate in Chemistry (Lab Sciences) from Ryerson Polytechnic Institute (Metropolitan University) in 1953. She married her soulmate Bruce in 1954 and relocated to St. Catharines in 1959. Doreen's career included working at St. Lawrence Starch, the Canada Food and Drug Agency, Vineland Research Station, Barnes Wines and Pellar Estates Winery, where she retired in 1996. Doreen was also a substitute high school teacher in the sciences, a job she found rewarding.

Doreen had been an active member of Trillium United Church for many years. She was a Sunday School teacher, a CGIT leader, and a member of the choir for many years. Doreen loved singing! She served on any committee that required help and as a result had much knowledge of church procedures and history. Doreen had a deep faith and she never stopped seeking knowledge.

The family wishes to thank the staff of Hotel Dieu Shaver Rehabilitation Hospital for their care over the past months. Doreen made many new friends during her stay and her family appreciates their support.

In lieu of flowers, the family would appreciate donations to Trillium United Church, Hotel Dieu Shaver Rehabilitation Hospital or a charity that has meaning to you.

Arrangements have been entrusted to Wilson Burial & Cremation Inc. St. Catharines. A Celebration of Doreen's Life will be held at Trillium United Church on April 22, 2025 at 11 AM. You are invited to join the family in sharing your memories of Doreen and to join them for lunch following the service.
