Laurie Michelle Dodge, a beacon of selfless love and faith, passed away peacefully on March 20, 2025, at the age of 65 in Catskill. Born on June 18, 1959, in Omaha, Nebraska, Laurie was a cherished daughter to the late Pat and Lorraine Gamerl Dodge. Her spirit, now free and soaring, leaves behind a legacy of kindness and devotion that will be forever etched in the hearts of those she touched.
Laurie's journey through life was marked by her unwavering commitment to her family, her profound appreciation of nature, and her active involvement in her community. A graduate of Onteora Central Schools, she always found her way back to the area she loved so dearly. Laurie's passion for the outdoors was evident in her avid bird watching as a member of the Audubon Society, and her hands were often found in the earth, tending to her beloved garden.
Her love for her family was the cornerstone of her existence. Laurie is survived by her two sons, Skyler Dodge and his wife Sarah, and Frank Gillespie and his wife Anna Maria, along with her siblings, Gregory Dodge, Patrick Dodge (Lynn), Debra Gardiner (Steve), and Barbara Lindsay (Barry). She was predeceased by her sister Cindy Stair, yet her memory will continue to be a comforting presence in their lives.
Laurie's role as "Grandma" to her six grandchildren, Evan, Eli, Isaiah, Josiah, Nehemiah, and Violetta, was one she embraced with joy and pride. Each child was a testament to her boundless love and the values she instilled in her family. Her love extended to her nieces, nephews, great nieces, and great nephews, always remembering to keep their birthdays close to her heart year after year.
Laurie's spirit of giving extended beyond her family to touch the lives of countless others through her community outreach. Volunteering her time for area food distribution efforts, she embodied the true essence of community service. Her selfless dedication to helping those in need was a hallmark of her character, and her absence will be deeply felt by the many lives she touched.
An avid reader with an insatiable thirst for knowledge, Laurie's love of learning was a lifelong pursuit. She found a sense of fulfillment in journaling her thoughts and feelings, filling many a notebook. Her free spirit and open heart allowed her to embrace new experiences and ideas, enriching her life and the lives of those around her.
A woman of deep faith, Laurie's life was a reflection of her beliefs. She was an active participant in Bible study groups at The Living Word Chapel after accepting Jesus into her heart in 2002, and her love for the Lord was a constant source of strength and inspiration. Laurie's commitment to living by The WORD was evident in her every action, and her faith-filled nature was a beacon of hope to all who knew her. She never passed up an opportunity to share her testimony with anyone and everyone she could. She furthered her worship of the Lord through her love of music. She would remind herself, and others, to "Trust in God, no matter what" as a daily affirmation.
