Interment will be held in Lafayette Memorial Park Peace Chapel Mausoleum immediately following the services, where she will rest with husband, Carl, for eternity.

Shirley leaves behind to cherish her memory her children, Carla Anne Vincent (Lydia), Duane Jude Vincent (Norma), and Cassandra Bernadette V. LaGrange (David); her grandchildren, Kristen Taylor (Joseph), Christopher Vincent, Jacob Vincent (Tristyn), Rebekah Beagle (Erik), Rachel Hinojosa (Chance), Holly Gardiner (James), Eric LaGrange; great grandchildren; brothers, Clyde Arceneaux (Delores), Fernest Arceneaux, and E.J. Arceneaux (Wanita); sisters, Eva Dell A. Guidry, Alice A. Guidry, Linda A. Suir (Burton), and Joan A. LeVasseur.

She is preceded in death by her beloved husband of 59 years, Carl J. Vincent; her parents, Edgar and Letha Trahan Arceneaux; brothers, Harry, Curtis, Patrick, and Stanley Arceneaux; sisters, Gloria A. Hernandez, and Enola A. Quebodeaux, and Mary A. Thibodeaux.

Born on July 30, 1940, in Duson, LA, the tenth child of Edgar and Letha Trahan Arceneaux, Shirley and her fourteen siblings were raised on the family farm until the sudden death of her father, Edgar, on February 25, 1949, when Shirley was eight years old. Her mother, Letha, moved to Lafayette in 1951 to find work with her twelve children that she still had to raise. Shirley and her siblings were faithful in the Roman Catholic faith by their deeply religious mother, instilling the love and faith of God, Jesus, and the Blessed Virgin Mary. Shirley attended N.P. Moss and then Lafayette High School, a proud member of the class of 1958, where she made many lifelong, dear friends, including her best friend until the end, Patricia Guidry “T-Pat” Leger, whom she loved deeply.

On October 18, 1959, she married the love of her live, Carl Joseph Vincent and moved to Norfolk, Virginia, where Carl was stationed in the U.S. Navy. While in Virginia, Shirley and Carl had three children, Carla Anne in May 1961, Duane Jude in February 1963, and Cassandra Bernadette in February 1964.

Soon after her third child’s birth, the Vincent family moved back to Louisiana, where Carl became employed by the U.S. Postal Service and Shirley was a stay-at-home mother. Shirley’s excellent seamstress skills clothed her family and sewed beautifully designed wedding dresses for family. She opened her own business, in home, which she called “Beau Maison Custom Drapery and Upholstery” in 1979 and remained operational until 1997 when Carl was diagnosed with leukemia.

Shirley accompanied Carl to M.D. Anderson and tenderly cared for him during his four-month stay. Carl beat leukemia and God gave Carl twenty additional years to care for Shirley when she was ill.

Shirley lost her beloved Carl on August 23, 2018, but in “True Shirley Fashion” went on and lived her life but missed him every day. Our Mother’s health deteriorated until she received her final diagnosis. She faced it bravely, making the decision to not have chemo or radiation saying, “When God is ready for me - I’m ready to go!” She lived on her own terms and died on her own terms.

Pallbearers will be her beloved grandsons, great grandsons, and nephew, Chris Vincent, Jacob Vincent, Eric LaGrange, Noah Long, Landen Long, and Cody Arceneaux.

Honorary Pallbearers will be David LaGrange, Joseph Taylor, Joseph Aaron Taylor, and Cyrus Ferrell.

The family of Mrs. Vincent extends their heartfelt appreciation to Ms. Kim and Ms. Renetta of Hospice of Acadiana that provided tender care in her final weeks.

“Regrets, I’ve had a few - but then again, too few to mention. I did what I had to do - and saw it through, without exemption. I planned each charted course - each careful step along the byway and more, much more than this - I DID IT MY WAY!”
