Lettie Estelle Neher passed away on March 20, 2025, at Life Care Center in New Market, Virginia.

Lettie Estelle Neher was born July 22, 1934, in Rockville, Maryland to Herbert S. Neher and Lettie Estelle Strickler Neher.

She is a descendent of John Neher who immigrated from Germany in 1750. Her grandparents were Samuel and Louella Martindale Neher of Tipp City, Ohio and Samuel Wellington Strickler and Martha Dinges Strickler of Midland, Virginia.

Estelle was preceded in death by her parents and brother, Herbert S. Neher, Jr.

She is survived by her sisters, Ilene Neher Smith and Patricia Neher Mead (Robert) of Harrisonburg, Virginia.

Also surviving are nieces: Karen Hayes, Cynthia Popeck, Susan Moose, Roberta Lowe, Catherine Rhodes, Tammy Neher and Amy Neher. Nephews: Scott Neher, John Smith and James Smith. Great Nieces: Malaney Neher, Kayla Brown, Heather Smith and Teresa McGuire. Great Nephews: Kenny Crites, Tyler Brown, Hunter Woodson, Christian Rhodes and Nicholas Rhodes.

She moved to Lincolna, Virginia at the age of three when her father went to work for Grassy Knoll Hatchery. She graduated from Fairfax High School in 1952. She worked for Alexandria National Bank until her family moved to Charlottesville, Virginia in 1957. Estelle worked for over forty years for Albemarle County. She was a Certified Municipal Clerk and was a charter member of VAGARA (Virginia Association of Government Archivist and Records Administrators).

Lettie Estelle had always loved singing and when the family moved to Charlottesville in 1957, she was afforded the opportunity to study voice with Sam Scarboro and Norman Allen, the choir directors at First United Methodist Church in Charlottesville. She sang the National Anthem for the Virginia Cavaliers Basketball season from 1970 - 1971. Thereafter she sang the National Anthem for many organizations and groups.

She sang with the Virginia Singers and was a charter member of the Charlottesville/Albemarle Oratorio Society. She sang with the community choir and was a soloist with First United Methodist Church and Cunningham United Methodist Church when she moved to Lake Monticello in 1993.

A graveside service will be held at 11:00am on Wednesday, March 26, 2025, at Monticello Memory Gardens, 670 Thomas Jefferson Parkway, Charlottesville VA with Rev. Amy Grant officiating.
