Robert E. Lovett, known affectionately by friends and family as Bob, was a man whose
laughter and light shone brightly throughout his 61 years. Bob passed away
unexpectedly on March 20, 2025, at his home in Cortlandt Manor.
Bob’s formative years were spent in Inwood, where he loved playing baseball and long
walks with his dog PJ. But it was in the quiet moments with his beloved wife, Michelle,
and their children, Tara Marie and Robert John, that he found his truest joy. His family
was the cornerstone of his life, and the love and laughter they shared will forever
resonate in their hearts.
Bob's early years were shaped by the love and guidance of his parents, the late Robert
D. and Eileen Lovett. His warm spirit and generous nature were a beacon of light for all
who knew him. Bob's life was a tapestry of close-knit family ties and enduring
friendships, including the cherished memories of times spent with Leo Martin, Joseph
Morales, and Gerry Ryan, all of whom predeceased him.
For four decades, Bob was the heartbeat of Local Union #3 IBEW, starting his career in
1982 and hanging up his hard hat in 2022. From foreman to site overseer on massive
projects, he was the go-to guy for all things electric. Even in retirement, his phone was a
hotline for those in need of his electrical advice, proving that you can retire the man, but
not the master.
Bob’s intelligence was matched by only his wit and his ability to fix almost everything
with his hands. Everyone gravitated to his quick humor and ease with which he could
bring a smile to their face. Whenever asked how he was doing, Bob’s response was
always “Living the Dream”. His knack for problem-solving extended beyond his
professional life and into every facet of his existence, making him a treasured
companion and confidant.
While New York was his home, Florida was where he wanted to be. He cherished his
vacation time, especially with his family. Bob loved the thrills of Universal Studios and
Disney, and ensuring to make every trip memorable for his wife and children. When he
wasn’t riding roller coasters, he had his toes buried in the sand with a cold drink in his
hand on the coast. Bob found his slice of paradise, a place where his laughter was as
abundant as the ocean breezes.
Bob was a ‘Parrothead’ at heart, he loved singing and dancing to Jimmy Buffett. He
loved listening to Margaritaville, with his bucket hat, on his pool deck. The Lovett house
was known for fun and eventful pool parties, with Bob at the barbeque flipping his
“Cheeseburgers in Paradise.” Bob was at his happiest when he was surrounded by his
friends and family.
As we bid farewell to our beloved Bob, we remember him not with sadness but with the
smiles he gave us, the jokes he told, and the warmth he brought to our lives. He was a
man who knew that life was not about the volts, but the laughter between the shocks.
And in that spirit, we celebrate the life of Robert E. Lovett with the wise words of Jimmy
Buffett- “Some of it’s magic and some of it’s tragic, but I had a good life all the way.”
