Harry "Jay" Edsel Byrd Jr. Obituary

Harry Edsel Byrd Jr., known to all as Jay, lived a life that was as vibrant and spirited as the parties he was famous for enlivening. Born on February 24, 1968, in Valdosta, GA, Jay's infectious laughter and love for a good joke became his signature. He departed this earth on March 16, 2025, in Greenville, NC, leaving behind a legacy of joy, humor, and an unquenchable passion for living each moment to its fullest.

Jay was a man who never met a sports game he didn't have an opinion on, and as a die-hard Colts fan, his commentary was as colorful as the team's uniforms. His love for sports was only matched by his dedication to his career, which spanned over two decades in insurance and automotive sales. Jay was as skilled at closing a deal as he was at cracking jokes, and his colleagues remember him as someone who could lighten up any encounter with his quick wit.

He had an educational journey that took him to the University of Western Carolina, where his humor was as much a part of his studies as the textbooks.

Jay's spirit of fun permeated every aspect of his life, and he is remembered by his family, who not only cherished his playful nature but also thrived in the warmth of his love and laughter. His daughter, Kayla Richardi (married to Justin), and his grandson, Thomas Ren Richardi, will carry on his legacy of humor and warmth. Jay's endearing antics will be fondly remembered by his mother, Lucy Byrd, and his father, Harry Byrd. Completing the family circle, his partner, Lisa Brewer, and her children, Taylor and Tyler Beaver, shared in the joy and exuberance that Jay brought into every room.

Despite his untimely passing due to a hypoxic brain injury, Jay's spirit remains indestructible—a beacon of humor in the hearts of all who knew him. True to his nature, Jay would have wanted us to celebrate his time on earth with laughter, not tears.

He was the funny, spirited soul of every gathering, a man who knew that life was too short to be taken too seriously. His ability to turn the mundane into the extraordinary with his humor will be what those who knew him will recall most fondly. His laughter will echo in the memories of his loved ones forever.

Harry "Jay" Byrd Jr. was not just a man; he was a feeling, an experience, and a reminder that the world is a more joyful place when we can laugh at it together. Jay, we raise a toast to you, and thank you for the spark of madness, the joy, and the unforgettable moments. As you would say "peace with chicken grease".
