Rose "Marie" Holden Thompson, born on June 3, 1935, in the serene landscapes of Henderson County, North Carolina, to the late Ellis and Beulah Holden, peacefully passed away at her residence in Hendersonville, North Carolina, on the morning of Thursday, March 20, 2025, at the age of 89. Her passing marks the end of a remarkable journey filled with compassion, dedication, and love.
Marie devoted over six decades of her life to serving others as a registered nurse. Her career spanned numerous esteemed institutions including the Charles George VA Medical Center, Pardee Hospital, Carolina Village, Brian Center in Laurel Park, and Hendersonville Pediatrics. Marie's unwavering commitment to her patients and her community left an indelible mark, earning her a place of deep respect and admiration.
A beloved member of Moore's Grove United Methodist Church for more than 60 years, Marie found great joy in the fellowship and support of her church family. She was also instrumental in establishing the Emergency Medical Services (EMS) program in Henderson County, a testament to her dedication to improving the well-being of her community.
Marie's life was enriched by her love for her family and her passion for the simple pleasures of life. She cherished every moment spent with her family at the beach, creating memories that will continue to inspire and comfort those she leaves behind.
She is preceded in death by, in addition to her parents, her husband, Russell Thompson, who departed this life on March 5, 2014; and her sister, Juliet Noblett.
Marie's legacy of love and kindness continues through her surviving family, her daughters, Cathy Justice (Junior), and Pam Williams (Scott); her five grandchildren, Jill Robinson (Andy), Morgan Ayscue, Zach Williams, Jessica Holzman (Paul), and Keith Justice (Cerissa); three great-grandchildren and one soon-to-join the family; her sister Dorothy Austin; and a host of nieces and nephews.
Marie's life will be celebrated at a funeral service on Monday, March 24, 2025, at 11:00 a.m. at Moore's Grove United Methodist Church with Pastor Deb Demorest officiating, followed by her interment in the church cemetery.
In lieu of flowers, memorial donations may be made to, Four Seasons Hospice & Palliative Care, in recognition of the compassionate care they provided to Marie and her family during her final days.
