Byron K. "Barney" Cunningham

ALEXANDRIA, IN- Byron K. “Barney” Cunningham, 95, passed in to eternal rest and peace on Sunday, December 16, 2018 at Community Hospital in Anderson following a brief illness. He was born in Fairmount on November 21, 1923 to Ralph and Faye (Brookshire) Cunningham and moved to Summitville shortly thereafter. He was a graduate of Summitville High School-Class of 1941 and had attended the Indiana Business College. Barney served his country in the United States Army Air Corps. He was attached to the 5th Air Force and was stationed in the Philippines. He was the last surviving member of the 305th Airdrome Squadron. He worked for the Alexandria Banking Company for 40 years and retired in 1986 as Executive Vice President. Barney has served as the President of the Alexandria Lions Club, President of the Alexandria Chamber of Commerce, treasurer of the Cunningham Little League, treasurer of the Alexandria Band Boosters and treasurer of the new Alexandria-Monroe High school holding corporation. He held the longest church membership in the Summitville First Christian Church where he served as church treasurer for 20 years. Barney has been a lifelong fan of the Chicago Cubs and he was an avid golfer and bowler. Barney was also the #1 fan of his children’s activities. Survivors: 2 Daughters-Leslee (David) Dann-Indianapolis, Lori (Randy) Wells-Columbus Son-Craig Cunningham-Alexandria 5 Grandsons-Nicholas (Kimberly) Dann, Andy Cunningham, Patrick Thurber, Daniel Cunningham, Cody (Jenni) Wells, Several nieces and nephews He was preceded in death by his parents, his wife of 66 years-Mary Louise (Arnold) Cunningham on October 21, 2018, infant daughter-Faith Cunningham, Sister-Phyllis Davis Services honoring Barney’s life, legacy and faith will take place at 2 pm on Thursday, December 20, 2018 in the First Christian Church, 712 East Walnut Street, Summitville with Pastor Nathan Lutterman officiating. Interment with military honors will follow in the Vinson Memorial Cemetery at Summitville. Friends may call at the church after 12 Noon on Thursday prior to the services. Memorial contributions are suggested to the Summitville First Christian Church with envelopes available at the services. The Cunningham family would like to extend their thanks to caregivers, Bethany Jarman, Brenda Johnston, Shirley Cox and Janice Dickey, Special neighbor MaryAnn DiRuzza, the staff at Summit Convalescent Center and dear friends at the Summitville First Christian Church.
