Lorna Ethel Ratliff Provo, Utah Obituary

Lorna Ethel Ratliff

Lorna Ethel Boice Ratliff 1918 – 2018 Lorna Ratliff passed away peacefully on August 18, 2018 after having spent the previous three days surrounded by her children, grandchildren, and great grandchildren. Lorna was born on December 2, 1918 in Manassa, Colorado to Heber and Ethel Boice. She moved with her family to Los Angeles, California. It was in a department store in Los Angeles where she met her eternal sweetheart, Charles Ratliff. They married on February 21, 1942, and were later sealed in the Los Angeles Temple for time and all eternity. Lorna passed away from mortality and is now reunited with her sweetheart Chuck, her son Mark, grandson Tyler, along with countless other loved ones. Lorna grew up during the Great Depression, began her marriage, and delivered her first child, Marlane Ratliff, as her husband served in the American Army Air Corp during World War II. She worked with her husband in their Five and Dime stores and cared for all those who had the privilege of knowing her. She would give birth to two sons, John and Mark Ratliff, Mark having passed away as an infant. Lorna and her family later moved to a small town in Northern California, Alamo, where she continued to give great care and attention to her beloved family. She created a home where her children, grandchildren, and friends would come and want to stay. In Lorna and Charles’ golden years, they moved from their comfortable, dream home to Orem Utah so they could help their daughter raise her two rambunctious boys. She would remain in Utah for the remainder of her life. With all of the conflict and strife existing in the world today, Lorna was an example to all who knew her of how to weather hardship, trials, and strife. She loved everyone and anyone who came into her family, a family that continually grew as her grandchildren married, as close or distant cousins came to visit, or when old or new friends would come into her life; everyone who ever came to know Lorna was made better in character and deed for knowing this angelic woman, daughter, wife, mother, grandmother, great grandmother, and friend. The famous and infamous may well be remembered in the history books of the world, but the world itself has been changed for the better because of those who live as did Lorna Ratliff. Lorna is survived by two children, Marlane Hobson and John Ratliff (Patti), along with 11 grandchildren and 13 great grandchildren. Her life of 99 years has been remarkable. Her passing has been bittersweet. The future reunion that she will have in the eternities will be glorious and filled with love. Funeral services will be held at 11:00 a.m. on Thursday, August 23, 2018 at the Stonewood 5th Ward, 450 South 100 West, Orem, Utah. A viewing will be held on Wednesday, August 22nd from 6:00 to 8:00 p.m. at Nelson Family Mortuary, 4780 N. University Avenue, Provo and on Thursday from 10:00 to 10:45 a.m. prior to services at the church. Interment will be in the Orem Cemetery. To express condolences visit www.NelsonMortuary.com
