Bro. Dennis Howard Knight, born on January 20, 1949, in Laurel, Mississippi, passed away peacefully on March 13, 2025, at age 76.
Bro. Dennis received Christ as his Savior early in life and was a steadfast servant of the Lord. He surrendered to the ministry in 1969 and was faithful to preach God’s word for over 55 years. He loved the Lord, His church, and missions. Bro. Dennis served as pastor of Berean Baptist Church in Soso, MS, Vardaman Baptist Church in Philadelphia, MS, Salem Baptist Church in Bay Springs, MS, Calvary Baptist Church in Taylorsville, MS, Centerville Baptist Church in Mantachie, MS, and Paramount Baptist Church in Perkinston, MS, where he was pastor for 35 years. He was a loving pastor, caring mentor, and gifted teacher, and he touched a multitude of lives. He served diligently in various roles of the Baptist Missionary Association of Mississippi and the Baptist Missionary Association of America throughout the years.
Bro. Dennis loved his family and enjoyed spending time with them, especially family lunches on Sundays. He was well-known for his witty sense of humor and his joyful laugh. Bro. Dennis loved fellowshipping with his brothers and sisters in Christ, particularly at ice cream suppers where he was famous for his orange sherbert. He was an avid sports fan and loved friendly competition. He was always up for a friendly game of washers. His favorite sport to watch was anything his grandchildren were playing; he was their biggest fan.
Bro. Dennis was preceded in death by his parents, Bro. Arnold and Hazel Holifield Knight of Soso, his brother, Randall Knight of Moss Point, his infant son, Jason Arnold Knight, and his infant grandson, Dennis Blake DeVaughn.
He is survived by his loving wife Mrs. Jean Letson Knight of Wiggins; his three daughters, Denise DeVaughn (George) of Wiggins, Dianna Williams (Charles, Jr.) of Wiggins, and Angela Givens (Stephen) of Wiggins; his eight grandchildren, Caleb DeVaughn of Wiggins, Lexie Bond (Garrett) of Wiggins, Paige Henske (Arthur) of Perkinston, Ethan Givens (Moiyah) of Ocean Springs, Clara Farmer (Dexter) of Hattiesburg, Brent DeVaughn (Amy) of Wiggins, Barbara Jean Williams (Dustin) of McHenry, and Jesse Williams of Wiggins; his nine great-grandchildren, Caden DeVaughn, LeighAnna DeVaughn, Beau Henske, Allyson Henske, Blake Farmer, Madilyn Farmer, Sylveigh Bond, Chase Givens, and Chance Givens; and one sister, Sheila Overstreet (Wayne); and a host of beloved family and friends.
Bro. Dennis will be deeply missed by his family and friends, but his love and legacy will live on in the hearts of all who knew him.
Services will be held at Paramount Baptist Church in Perkinston, Mississippi on Sunday, March 16, 2025. Visitation will be at 2:00 p.m. Funeral services will begin at 4:00 p.m. with a graveside service to follow at the church cemetery.
