Marcia Munro, of East Haven, passed away March 13th, 2025 peacefully and surrounded by family. She was born September 3rd, 1945 in New Haven to Leslie and Marian (Eberwine) Munro. Marcia is survived by her loving and devoted daughter, Elizabeth Lovering (Denzill) of Houston and four grandchildren, Cameron, Tyler, Cassandra and Hayden
Marcia is preceded in death by her parents, aunt and uncle, and husband, Timothy Carl Hartmann (1996)
Marcia came from a long and varied line of talented musicians. By age 3, her parents realized she had perfect pitch and encouraged her to develop it. She could recognize up to 9 notes played on the piano together and report back both key and octave. Her mother taught her classical piano from a young age, and in 1962 she won the New Haven Symphony Orchestra Contest for High School Students and Young People playing Mendelssohn’s piano concerto in G Minor. She loved all music and it continued to play a tremendous role in her life and all of those around her.
Marcia was an only child, but grew up surrounded by an extended family of loving adults and many loyal pets. She had an extremely accurate memory and learned to read from the Bible, so even in her last days she could recite all 39 books of the Old Testament. She was diligent, precise and thoughtful in every project she encountered and carried a strong love for learning throughout her life, taking deep dives into countless subjects. One of her most proud endeavors was her collaboration, and strategic efforts in breakthrough research into heart disease in Maine Coon Cats and her education website that ensued.

Marcia graduated from the Gateway School in New Haven and went on to Oberlin College and was very proud to have met Martin Luther King three times. There, she studied pre-med biology with the intention of becoming a neurosurgeon, outperforming all of her male peers on the MCAT’s. However, discouraged by a suggestion that she would only be allowed to attend a women’s college, she changed direction and went to work for IBM where she thrived and excelled in her career and met her brilliant husband, Tim.
Marcia’s interests and activities were wide and deep. She loved gardening, genetics, genealogy, photography, yoga, sailing, illustrating, sewing, fiction writing, medical research, calligraphy and cheerleading! She loved any type of animal, but especially cats, who gave her strength and comfort always. She was very social, and people around her would most recall her great love of storytelling, formally and informally, anywhere, everywhere and any time! Her stories ranged from funny to sad, lighthearted to momentous, historical to ponderous. This gift meant that she made friends wherever she went - in every store, restaurant, meeting place, and neighborhood street, she got to know everyone around her. Marcia really got to know those around her-not just on the surface, but deeply and genuinely and could read people’s personalities quickly. She made a habit of encouraging strengths and talents in those around her in a natural and effortless way. This way of life and these approaches carried directly into her parenting style and she was an always loving and proud mother, mother in law and grandmother.
