It is with heavy hearts that we announce the death of Robert John Thompson, age 85, who passed away peacefully on March 9, 2025 at his home. He was surrounded by loved ones to his final breath.

Affectionately known as “Bob”, he was born on October 27, 1939 in Harrisburg, PA to Robert Lee and Mary R. (Hoover) Thompson. Bob grew up and attended school in Saginaw, MI. On February 18, 1961, he married his sweetheart, the former Loretta Stafford, his loving wife of 64 years. To their union, three children were born; Marylou, Rebecca and Robert, Jr. Bob was employed by and retired from the Eaton Corporation as a tool grinder. He was a member of the Methodist faith. After raising their family, Bob and Loretta enjoyed the warmth of Florida before returning to Michigan.

A devoted husband, father, grandfather and friend, Bob will be remembered for his devotion to his family, his kindness and sense of humor. He had a deep love for golf and other sports, and took pride in sharing his knowledge and talents with others. Bob’s warmth, wisdom and love will be deeply missed. Yet, his memory will live on in the hearts of all who knew him.

Bob is survived by his wife, Loretta; and his daughter, Rebecca Perry and son Robert (Jennifer) Thompson, Jr. He was predeceased by his daughter, Marylou Sweeney; and his brother, Richard Thompson. Also surviving are his other brothers, Dave Thompson, Patrick Thompson and Matthew Blehm. Bob also had 7 grandchildren, Michael, Jamie, David, Chelsea, Jacob, Gregory and Robert; 7 great-grandchildren; and 1 great-great-grandson. Bob continued to be embraced and loved by his forever son-in-law, Jim Sweeney.
