Joe Ann Nassida Obituary

Joe Ann Goins Nassida, 91, passed away on Thursday, March 13, 2025 at the Hospice Compassionate Care Center in Richmond.

Joe Ann was born on April 4, 1933 in Madison County (Berea), and was the daughter of Manuel B. and Lily Jackson Goins, both of whom preceded her in death. Joe Ann was the devoted wife of Frank Robert Nassida, who preceded her in death in 2019, with whom she shared a strong, loving relationship that lasted over 60 years. She was of the Baptist faith. Joe Ann, along with her husband, owned and operated Speck’s Restaurant in Richmond during the 1960s. She was an art teacher at Madison Central High School for 26 years. Some of her many projects during her tenure included working on floats for the MCHS homecoming parade and painting the windows of downtown Richmond businesses for the Christmas season with her students. Joe Ann was greatly loved and respected by her students as a mentor and friend, and she built many relationships that had lasted until the present time. Joe Ann was a strong, independent woman, and as such, was one of the first women to be appointed as a Richmond City Councilwoman. During her time in city government, she served on the beautification committee and was instrumental in getting the old federal building remodeled and used as Richmond City Hall. In her leisure time, she enjoyed painting & drawing, shopping, and traveling internationally. She will be remembered by her family and all those who loved her as a strong, feisty, loving woman, who was kind to all, regardless of their background.

Survivors include: three children, Frank B. “Brownie” Nassida, Darlene Nassida Young (David), and Vincent Nassida (Tracy); grandchildren, Amanda White, Wesley Nassida, Melody Nassida, Steven Nassida, Shannon Young, Christen Anglin, Jacqueline Harding, Matthew Nassida, Trent Nassida, Ella Nassida, and Susan Huntzinger; great-grandchildren, Shay Nassida, Larkin White, Dawson White, Gage Brock, Grace Anglin, Griffin Anglin, Jaxx Anglin, Corie Young, Keeton Young, Brandon Huntzinger, and Ryan Huntzinger; one great-great-grandchild, Braelynn Brock; a special cousin, Manuel Goins; and a special caregiver, Ginny Sams.
