Victor Sawchuk, MD FCFP, passed away on March 9, 2025, in Calgary, AB. He is survived by his five children, Cindy (Kevin) Sawchuk, Robert (Anisa) Sawchuk, Robert Callihoo, Jeff Sawchuk, and Barb (Len) Raboud; his grandchildren, Jennifer Raboud, Grant (Meaghan) Raboud, Jake (Amber) Raboud, Phoebe Sawchuk, Nikita Sawchuk, Noelle Sawchuk, and Nick Sawchuk; and his great-grandson, Reed Straub. He is predeceased by his wife, Anne Sawchuk, his sister, Vicky Kuzio, and his brother, John Sawchuk.

Victor was born on April 1, 1936, on the family farm near Two Hills, AB. He was proud of his rural roots.

He attended the University of Alberta and graduated in 1960. After an internship in Saskatoon, SK, he entered private practice in Wainwright, AB, in 1961. In 1974, he joined the Family Practice department in the Faculty of Medicine at the University of Calgary, AB. After retiring from the university, he worked mostly in rural locum tenens until he retired fully in 2007.

Professionally, he thoroughly enjoyed rural practice and teaching Family Practice residents. Personally, he loved his family, his Brittany Spaniels, hunting and fishing, and telling jokes. His residents joked that they couldn't graduate until they'd heard all of his jokes three times. His family thought, "Only three times?" 

He lived his final years under the kind care of Garrison Green. Goodbye, Dad. I hope there's lots of hunting, fishing, and storytelling in heaven.
