Doreen Beatrice Hemminger (Fijala nee Booker)
August 16, 1933 - March 13, 2025
It is with great sadness we announce the passing of our mother, grandmother and great grandmother Doreen Hemminger of Morden on March 13, 2025 at Boundary Trails Health Centre, age 91.
Doreen was born in Snowflake, MB on August 16, 1933 to parents Albert and Elyda Booker and grew up on a farm east of Darlingford, MB. She was the eldest of three daughters. Doreen married her first husband Tony Fijala of Darlingford in 1954 and had four children, Ron, Sharon, Dennis and Doug. Doreen worked hard along side her husband Tony to make a good life for their family. Her husband Tony lost his life tragically in 1977. Doreen married Ben Hemminger in 1983 and they moved to Morden. Ben passed away in December of 2022. She then moved to the Legion House. Doreen was a great cook and baker and found great joy in her family. Each grandchild and great grandchild had a special place in her heart. When Doreen entered the hospital early February, she prayed she would make it until June to see her first great great grandchild and be part of five generations again for the third time. She cherished her new circle of friends she made at the Legion house and enjoyed her time there.
Doreen is remembered by her son Ron Fijala, his son Tony (Susie) Fijala; daughter Sharon (Bob) Tremeer, her son Mark (Alison) Fijala, and their daughter Melanie (Jarett) Burns; son Doug (Debbie) Fijala, their son Danny (Amber) Fijala, and daughter Tiffany (Eric) Ching, and ten great-grandchildren: Owen (Hailey) Fijala, Cora (Brad) McLeod, Erica Fijala, Adley Fijala, Daxton Fijala, Kiana Chaboyer, Payton Ching, Paisley Ching, Remington Ching, Elliana Fijala; her sister Reita Thomson and many nieces and nephews.
Doreen was predeceased by her first husband Tony (1977), son Dennis (1986), second husband Ben (2022) and sister Jean Lovell (2021).
A service will be held on Friday, March 21 at 11:00am at Wiebe Funeral Chapel in Morden with ash interment at Chapel Cemetery. The family would like to thank the doctors, nurses and staff at Boundary Trails Health Centre for their excellent care during her last days. Thank you for the outpouring of love, prayers and support the family has received during these last days. Donations may be made in Doreen’s memory to Morden Legion House
