Marilyn Jeris Obituary

MONROE TOWNSHIP – MARILYN JERIS passed away peacefully on Thursday, March 13, 2025, surrounded by love.

She was born and raised in Newark, New Jersey to the late Leonard and Rose (née Itzikson) Davis. She was a proud graduate of Weequahic High School and Newark State College where she studied elementary education. She taught in several elementary schools in Union Township for over twenty-five years.

She was an avid reader and enjoyed preparing for her book club meetings. She liked playing games and was often found at a table with her friends playing mahjong and canasta. Marilyn was an incredible baker whose cakes, brownies and cookies will be missed by many. She was active in her Greenbriar community and the many clubs to which she belonged. She loved a good meal and enjoyed time at restaurants with her gourmet club. Despite her petite stature, she often surprised people with her large appetite. She was a lifelong Yankees fan and was on several bowling teams. Marilyn was well traveled and enjoyed the arts. She was a lifetime member of Hadassah and ORT and a past president of REGM.

She was a devoted wife, most loving mother, proud Gram, adoring Mimi and loyal friend. Her legacy of warmth, compassion, kindness and integrity will live on in the hearts of those who knew her.

She was predeceased by her beloved husband, Irving Jeris; son-in-law, Harold Horowitz; and sister, Harriet Suckno.

She leaves behind to cherish her memory daughters, Vicki Horowitz and Nancy Hunter; three grandchildren, Jaimee Farrer and her husband, David, Jeffrey Horowitz and his wife, Julia, and Nicole Kobis and her husband, Edward; and six great-grandchildren Zachary, Shelby, Ryan, Charles, Arielle and Lily who gave her immense joy. She is also survived by her brother, Jack Davis, and a community of friends who filled her life with love and memories.

A graveside service will be held on Friday, March 14, 2025, at 12:45pm, at Beth Israel Cemetery, 1098 Woodbridge Center Drive, Woodbridge, NJ, under the direction of MOUNT SINAI MEMORIAL CHAPELS, East Brunswick, NJ.
