It is with immense sadness that Thursday, March 13, 2025, marked the culmination of Guillermina A. Martinez's awe-inspiring 95-year journey, in Del Rio, Texas, which began on June 7, 1929.
She was lovingly brought into this world by Eduardo Arredondo & Dolores Escobedo Arredondo and had the good fortune of being the youngest of ten children.
Guillermina Arredondo Martinez, affectionately known as Mina, leaves behind a legacy of hard work, resilience, and love for her community and family. She was born and raised in the neighborhood of San Felipe in Del Rio,Texas, where she learned the value of diligence and determination from a young age.
Tragedy struck early in Mina’s life when her father passed away in a tragic accident, leaving her mother, Dolores Arredondo, to care for her and her siblings. Despite the challenges, Dolores ran a general store in San Felipe, where Mina learned the importance of hard work and perseverance and helped her mother from a young age. Her mother's dedication to her education led her to embrace the elementary years at Out Lady of Guadalupe Catholic school and continue her high school years at Sacred Heart Academy in Del Rio, Texas, where she received a solid foundation in academics and faith. Mina was an alumni of Sacred Heart Catholic Academy and SWTJC.
She held a position at the office of the Attorney General and The Department of health and human services. She would migrate with her family to California in the summertime where she held the position of floor lady(manager) at the Tri-Valley facility. Mina is also known for her impeccable customer service during her years working at local downtown stores such as Bealls and JC Penny’s.
As a dedicated proponent of youth development and education, she sponsored the Catholic youth organization.
Mina demonstrated unwavering support for San Felipe High School, showing particular enthusiasm for the class of '70, in which her son Gilbert was a student.
Throughout her life, she remained actively involved with the Catholic Daughters of the Americas Joan of Arcs of Del Rio Chapter and served as Region for 4 years and a dedicated member for 23 years where she continued to help at annual church events at Our Lady of Guadalupe and Sacred Heart Churches.
She enthusiastically looked forward to attending and contribute to her heritage events at Brown Plaza.
Mina was a grassroots political activist at the local and state level. She played a role in supporting Governor Brisco's election campaign during that era.
