Salvatore Astuto Obituary

Salvatore "Sal" Astuto, a cherished family man, esteemed colleague, and a pillar of his community, passed away peacefully on March 13, 2025. Born on July 23, 1947, in Brooklyn, NY, Sal led a full and vibrant life dedicated to his family, his work, and his community.

Sal grew up in the Marlboro projects in Gravesend Brooklyn, where he developed a strong sense of resilience and a deep appreciation for the value of hard work. He graduated Lafayette high school in 1964 and he went on to study finance at Baruch College and the College of Staten Island. He married his beloved wife Judi in 1970 and was drafted into the U.S. Army that same year, spending the majority of his service in Georgia and Virginia. Once his service ended he returned to Brooklyn and ultimately moved his family to Staten Island in 1983.

In a career that spanned 40 years, Sal was a respected figure at several large printing companies, finally settling at Bowne Inc, where he was a collections manager.

He was a man of deep faith and was a long time parishioner at St. Charles, serving as a Eucharistic Minister. His presence was a comfort to those around him, and his guidance was sought after by many in his congregation.

Sal's true passion lay in the simple pleasures of life. He was an avid cook, known among family and friends for his delicious meals and the joy he found in sharing them. Sal's love for his family and friends was evident in everything he did. He was a devoted husband to his late wife, Judi Astuto, and a loving father to his sons, Joseph and Michael, his daughter-in-law, Toniann, and his eyes would always light up at the mention of his grandchildren, Victoria and Vincent, whom he was extremely proud of.
