Shirley F. Mauzy (Funk), 94, of Florham Park, passed away peacefully at her home on March 9, 2025, surrounded by her loving family.

Shirley Vincent Funk Mauzy was born in Greenville, M.S. Her father owned an earth-moving business and built levees on the Mississippi River. Her family later moved to Memphis, TN, where she grew up. Shirley graduated from Central High School in Memphis. Her father, originally from northern Indiana, moved his business there and contracted many projects. He purchased a farm and the family spent summers there and winters in Memphis.

Shirley graduated from Purdue University School of Science. While there she met Warren. They were married in 1953 in Memphis and moved to Frederick, MD. Warren was stationed at Ft. Detrick. Shirley was employed as a serologist in the hospital lab until she had her children.

Shirley began a long career in education after her daughters became school-age. She taught science at St. John Catholic High School for a number of years. After the family moved to Florham Park, in 1970, Shirley continued her career substitute teaching in Florham Park, Madison, Chatham and Chatham Township. She was passionate about teaching special needs students in elementary and high school. She continued teaching until the age of 75.

Shirley was a lifelong volunteer. She began volunteering with the Greystone Park Association in 1970. She volunteered there until recently. As an active member of Calvary Presbyterian Church, Shirley was involved in many mission projects.  Shirley was a member of the local chapter of Philanthropic Educational Organization (PEO). Through PEO, scholarships, loans and grants are made available for womens’ higher education. Shirley enjoyed painting, reading and nature. She was a member of the NJ Audubon Society.

Beloved wife of 73 years to Warren Mauzy.  Devoted mother of Emily M. Palmieri, her husband Mark, and Alice-Ann Hoffman.  Cherished grandmother of Timothy Varro, his partner Ivanka Wang, Justine Snyder, her husband Brent, and Kyle Hoffman, his wife Anastasia.  Also survived by 4 great-grandchildren, and many loving nieces, nephews, cousins and friends.

A memorial visitation will be held at the Leonardis Memorial Home, Inc., 210 Ridgedale Avenue, Florham Park on Friday, March 21st from 4-7pm.  A memorial service will be held on Saturday, March 22nd at Calvary Presbyterian Church, 144 Ridgedale Avenue, Florham Park at 11am.

Calvary Presbyterian Church, Habitat for Humanity, Hanover Wind Symphony, Mercy Ships and Corps, The Carter Center, Dr's.Without Borders, or the Franklin Graham Christmas Shoebox Program.
