Bettie Carlton Baldwin Obituary

Bettie Carlton Baldwin passed away peacefully surrounded by loved ones, on March 9,
2025.
Born in Tully Valley to Beatrice and Francis Aungier, Bettie was the third of five sisters:
Helen Estey, Donna Gutchess, Linda Parker, and Eilleen Amidon. From an early age,
she was known for her kindness, her love of conversation, and her ability to strike up a
chat with just about anyone.
Bettie met her first husband, Ralph Carlton, in the third grade at Tully Elementary
School. Their greatest adventure was raising their six children. Family was always her
highest calling, and she devoted her life to them. If you were lucky enough to walk into
Bettie’s kitchen, you were likely greeted by the scent of freshly baked bread.
Bettie was a homemaker. She had a passion for gardening, both flowers and
vegetables, and loved being in nature. Bettie also had a deep love for music and was an
enthusiastic choir singer, blessing those around her with a beautiful voice. Church was
always an important part of her life, providing her with both community and purpose.
Summers were spent making family memories on the St. Lawrence River, in the
Thousand Islands, and in the Adirondacks, where she soaked in the simple joys of life.
Bettie was married to John Baldwin and they resided in Greene, NY in the summers and
wintered in Florida where they had a thriving social life.
Bettie is survived by Ralph Carlton, daughters Brenda Lawyer and Gail Carlton, sons
Dan (Julie), Larry (Anh), and Scott (Kathy); grandchildren Nate, Kevin and Steve
Carlton; Stacy Eppolito; Mitch Sheppard; Brad and Lance Carlton; Jenna Hendrick,
Dylan and Micah Carlton; six great-grandchildren; and sisters Eileen and Linda. She
was predeceased by her husband, John Baldwin, her daughter, Judy, and her sisters,
Helen and Donna.
Friends and family are invited to celebrate Bettie’s life at calling hours on March 22nd
from 3:00-5:00 PM at Bush Funeral Home, 120 E. Main St., Elbridge, NY followed by an
informal gathering at the Jordan Elbridge Community Center, 1 State Route 31, Jordan,
NY from 5:00-6:30 PM.
In lieu of flowers, donations may be made to the LaFayette Apple Festival Organizing
Committee, PO Box 45, Lafayette, NY 13084. Bettie will be remembered not only for her
warmth and kindness but for the way she made everyone feel like an old friend.
