James (Jim) D. Modglin, 72, passed away suddenly at home early Sunday morning, March 9, 2025.  He was born on January 6, 1953, the son of Henry and Estella Modglin.  Jim attended Muncie Central High School and married his high school sweetheart Nora on October 7, 1971. 

Jim started his career as a laborer, later becoming a carpenter, and finally a superintendent who oversaw the construction of waste water treatment plants.  Before his retirement, he worked for several companies over his decades long career, including Reynolds, Layne, and Thieneman.  He took pride in his work and was well known for making the impossible possible, both on time and under budget. 

Jim loved the outdoors.  He enjoyed hunting, fishing, and especially working with his hands.  He had an incredibly creative mind and the skills to turn his visions into reality.  However, what brought him the most joy was time spent with his best friend, and constant tag-along, his granddaughter Cassie. 

Many years after losing his loving wife of 47 years, Jim would once again open his heart to his beloved girlfriend Missy as well as welcoming her children into his life and family.

 He was many things to many people over his 72 years.  Dad, Papaw, friend, role model, and mentor.  The impact he made on lives is immeasurable and he will be missed by many.

 Jim is survived by one son, James D. Modglin II (wife Jennifer), granddaughter Cassandra (Cassie) Jade Modglin, brother Donnie Modglin (wife Pam), sister Sylvia Tucker (husband William), sister Charlotte Logan, and his beloved companion Melissa (Missy) Hollars.  In addition, he leaves behind special nieces Ashley Meadows and Sara Berryman as well as countless other friends and loved ones.

 Jim was preceded in death by his parents, his wife Nora in 2018, as well as seven siblings:  brothers Albert, Charles, Thomas, Richard, and Robert Modglin and sisters Phyllis Modglin and Virginia Parker.

 Funeral services will be held Friday, March 21, 2025, at 1:00 PM at Parsons Mortuary – 801 W. Adams Street, Muncie, IN.  Friends may call on the family Thursday, March 20 from 4:30 PM to 7 PM and Friday from 12 PM until the time of the service.  Burial will follow at Tomlinson Cemetery.
