Patricia Ann Redden Obituary

With heavy hearts, we announce the passing of Patricia Ann Redden, who died peacefully on March 9, 2025. Born and raised in New York, NY, and a long-time resident of Jersey City, NJ, Pat was a loving and devoted mother, sister, aunt, cousin, teacher, and friend. Her passion impacted the lives of everyone she met, leaving an indelible impression on all who knew her. At the center of Pat’s life was her family, offering unconditional love, support, and guidance to those closest to her heart.

She is survived by her daughters Maggie and Mariya Redden; her sisters, Noreen Napolitano and Penny Trawinski; her brothers-in- law, Ernie Napolitano and Bob Trawinski; and son-in-law Abe Waugh and Mariya’s life- partner Chris Peterman. Pat’s life was defined by service to others, most notably through her dedication as a professor of chemistry at Saint Peter’s University for over 50 years and as an active member of the American Chemical Society’s (ACS) national committees on Chemists with Disabilities and Chemical Safety. She won the 2025 ACS Volunteer Service Award and the 2024 Stanley C. Israel Regional Award for Advancing Diversity in the Chemical Sciences Award.

Through her work as a volunteer service puppy raiser for Canine Companions for Independence (CCI), Pat combined her passion for service to others and her love of furry four-legged friends. CCI is a national organization that enhances the lives of people with disabilities by providing highly trained service dogs at no charge.

Pat was also very invested in her daughters’ athletic pursuits and became a track and field official certified by USA Track & Field at the national and Paralympic levels to help advocate and support the growth of disabled sports.  With an insatiable wanderlust, Pat can now travel the world freely and with everyone she loves.

In lieu of flowers, the family is asking for donations to Canine Companions for Independence, PO Box 446, Santa Rosa CA 95402.
