Nancy Mae (Adams) Swartz, 89, of Paris, MO passed away on Sunday, March 9, 2025 at the Exira Care Center in Exira, IA.

Nancy was born on May 27, 1935 in Monroe County, MO the daughter of Elbert Wiley and Allene Elizabeth (Hatten) Adams. She married Dr. Bob Dunaway Swartz on July 3, 1965 at the First Christian Church in Paris, MO. He preceded her in death on January 6, 2019.

She is survived by her two sons, Wiley Jack Houchins (Cindy) of Johnston, IA and James Scott Houchins (Jane) of Exira, IA; daughter-in-law, Sara Houchins of Woodburn, IA; step children, Gregory Taylor Swartz (Jan) of Winston- Salem, North Carolina, Sara Lemke (John Suminski) of Janesville, WI; nine grandchildren and 13 great-grandchildren.

She was preceded in death by her parents; husband, Dr. Bob Swartz; one son, John Allen Houchins; and brother, John Adams.

Nancy was a member of the Paris First Christian Church and was an active member of the Paris Country Club. She graduated from Paris High School in 1953 and later attended Northeast Missouri Teachers College in Kirksville, MO earning a Bachelor’s Degree. She taught school for a few years and then began a career as a Social Worker for the State of Missouri. Nancy enjoyed playing golf and socializing with the Paris Country Club crew, fishing, playing bridge, cooking, gardening, and boating. Her favorite holidays were Thanksgiving when all the kids returned home, and Christmas when she had a tree in every room. Mickey Mouse was one of her treasured characters that kept her laughing. Most of all, her grandchildren were the apple of her eye. “Miss Nancy” will be missed by many for her love and spunk.

Funeral services will be held on Friday, March 14, 2025 at 2:00 p.m. at the Agnew Funeral Home in Paris, MO with Reverend Donna Scott officiating. Visitation will be held from 1:00 p.m. till time of service on Friday at the funeral home. Burial will be in Sunset Hill Cemetery in Madison, MO.
